From what I've heard, a lot of GM's don't like the fact that he was a former agent in a big agency, so there's very little respect when it comes to that side of the business.

Think if Rich Paul was a GM and how he's been pushing players towards certain teams. Rob knows everything about the CBA and making things work, but he'll be hard pressed when it comes to trying to find a fair offer.

Completely understand that POV. But that's got nothing to do with his negotiating skills. Maybe he was too good at it that's why GM's don't like him. In my line of work, I hate certain companies because they negotiate "too well."

I don’t see this getting done, and honestly i would be happy. We get to keep all our young guys plus the draft pick. And if we can’t get a marque free agent then rob needs to be fired and Jeanie needs to sell the team and I rather keep all our young guys plus draft picks. Until we get a new owner and a more competent front office.

But I’m Mark it down the trade will not get done.

And if it somehow does and we give up bi,Kuz,zo and the #4 and possibly Hart we got flecced.

That's what I was trying to get at. He knows the ins and outs and GM's know that so they play hardball with him, so how does he handle that when he hasn't been in the GM seat before?

You're just getting impatient, are you really expecting anything to come out before the Finals conclude?

I'm trying to make sense of why Griff prefers Kuz... The only thing I can think of is that BI is going into a RFA contract year and can force his way out of Nawlins if he chooses to do so. He's got a power agent in Schwartz and can try to pull what Jules did with us.

On the flip, let's say Nawlins matches any BI offer sheet, in a year you're looking at roughy 60% of your cap sheet dedicated to just Jrue, BI and Zion. Is that feasible for a small market team?

Now let's say Griff brings in a "star" along with BI in a trade for AD. For example let's say LaVine comes into the fold along with the 7th pick. So in a year, it now becomes LaVine/7th (~27m), BI (~20m), Zion (~12m), Jrue (26m) = about 85m of your cap for 5 players.

Obviously Kuz's team friendly deal doesn't lead to these type of "problems". Also if Griff is looking to go free agent shopping this summer and that contract will obviously impact next year's books, then again Kuz helps your cap sheet tremendously vs a RFA BI, who can also sign an extension this summer with either us or his new team and that would make him a poison pill contract if he's back on the trading block this season.

Give Toronto their ring and then come on home Kawhi like you wanted last year to that fab new mansion with the pool you bought and win a bunch more over the next decade.

i honestly dont see how chi can be that enamored with Zo to give up Lavine when the story was they wanted zo to pair with lavine, you'd think chi was trading for a star like rhey traded away butler but i guess moving up to 4 and removing lavine big $ must be more appealing...id offer uo wagner and another 1st in place of kuz tho if we could

    Hey @borri !

Don't have time to get into the details, but Rob was a good agent. But as an agent, you have a different amount of leverage when a player, particularly a star, is on your side. In this context, Rob has not done as well.

You don't have to look much further than this February to see how poorly Rob handled things - so much so that New Orleans wanted to work more with Magic. While Magic certainly didn't help, you can think of the situation now as having removed Magic and added in Kurt Rambis.

I can elaborate more later, but in any case, if you see a done deal soon and feel the Lakers gave up a bit too much, you're probably right.

Exactly my thoughts. Bottom line rob should have been fired when magic quit. The fact that he’s running the show, shows how incompetent Jeanie is as a owner.

To be fair no one was going to do well with Demps on the other side. The problem of giving too much now is because we made a Godfather offer before. Was that Magic or Rob? Negotiating off a Godfather offer is much harder than negotiating from a low ball offer.

You have the facts wrong though.

Rob wasn't part of any conversations during the trade deadline. It was specifically Magic and Dell Demps. The reason is because back when Pelinka was an agent he screwed over Dell Demps/the Pelicans by trying his hardest to get Eric Gordon out of there by leaking s*** to the media that he wants out.

I recommend reading through these above ^^.

Lol he doesn’t. Anyone who prefers Kuz over BI doesn’t know basketball. Unless they just prefer Kuz because of his contract and the fact that they will have to pay Ingram next year. broussard Said this morning that the Pels value BI first and ZO second. Don’t listen to that scoop guy. I’ve also been told the same thing from someone I know who’s usually right more than he’s wrong. I think Chicago could be the third team

I've watched him for years. Always thought he was underrated, but no blog will convince me what my eyes have seen for years. He's a terrible defender.

In February, we still were fighting for a playoff berth in order to not waste year 1 of our Bron investment. You get AD for essentially 1.5yrs (essentially impacting 2 postseasons) as opposed to just one if we trade for him now.

The godfather deal was for that purpose alone and at the time we said if you don't take it, that offer won't be available this summer.

    And obviously it won't be.

AD liked our Godfather efforts, which is why he's so adamant about being LA bound.

Don't let the NY involvement in his short-list fool y'all... Just like the February trade demand to eliminate Boston from the picture, he's essentially saying LA or bust again cause he knows NY doesn't have that strong of a package to offer Nawlins. He knows Boston does (all-star in Hortford, potential star in Tatum, Memphis and future pick checks off all of Griff's boxes), which is why Rich poured water over the Boston talks yet again.

Thank You for this. I like you Mr. Rambis but your bias against Pelinka is way to obvious. I mean if i were Demps i would also want to work with the guy who has no idea how to negotiate a trade or a contract for that matter. Wouldn't you want to work with a novice to get what you wanted instead of working with a guy who got the best of you during the Gordon negotiations?
