Fine, trade all the kids, and keep the #4. Why should we give up literally every young player we have plus a top 5 pick when no team can beat our offer? Why should we bid against ourselves when this isn’t Demps vs Rich Paul anymore? It’s Griffin and AD probably in a better place working with Rich Paul to get something done. Once upon a time Ray Allen averaging 26.4 ppl was traded from Seattle to Boston for Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak and the 5th pick. Top 5 picks alone should hold a lot of value, it’s no longer a throw-in like it would have been at 11 or higher.

Pretty sure that would have to be the other way around though. So, a deal for AD would have to be secretly agreed upon before the draft, we take whoever NO wants, hope it’s who we want also, hope the trade doesn’t fall through, hope a 3rd team doesn’t need to be involved, tricky situation.

Like I hinted at before, Griffin leaked this to the media just to put pressure on the Lakers and try to get Rob to call him back. Let's see what the Lakers do. I suspect that now things are in the public sphere, you'll hear about it from the media before me.

so we go all in and let them hose us for real this time and what do we have?

    Bron, AD, Kyrie?

not sure a bench consisting on Jimmer Fridette and 10 undrafted rookies is gonna get us anywhere

We would find better depth than that with vets who are ring-chasing.

More importantly, AD just turned 26 & Kyrie just turned 27. We'd be sitting pretty for the next 5+ years no matter what with those 2 as our key core to start from (plus Bron at the start, of course).

Gotta keep Ball or ingram. Their defensive ability/effort this early in their career is hard to find.

both are injury-prone, but yes, we should be a solid playoff team for years if we can pull off the big summer.

edit: would deandre jordan take a major discount to play here with AD/bron/kyrie? would ariza come back and play for the minimum? look at all the waiver pick ups that had playoff impact the past few years. get the stars, and things work out.

That’s my thought. You get AD and a Kyrie and things start happening.

Honestly, I think we end up keeping either Ball or Kuzma.

But, I’m still not sold we are bidding against ourselves. if Kawhi stays in Toronto I see teams being a lot more willing to take a gamble on a one year rental.

    “If need be”

As in if we need to one up somebody to get AD here we need to do it.

Yeah, I am aware of that; and yes, I do think a deal would be in place (unofficially) until Kyrie signs and we trade for AD.

I think this is what the Lakers are hoping for...

I'm just afraid he'll get traded somewhere in the east that no one saw coming. Like Kawhi was.

I strongly fear our negotiating skills though, Rob Pelinka and Kurt Rambis are currently ruining our front office. I fear we will outbid fake rumors rather than offer what is an actually fair deal. What team out there can offer better than us that is willing to do so, and won’t gut their team in the process? AD said he wants a trade because he wants to win, so that eliminates some other teams that have top 10 picks to trade but no star still on the roster if they trade their best assets for AD. We CAN trade all of our young pieces and the pick and we still have LeBron for AD to play next to. Knicks, Suns, Cavs, Bulls, Grizzlies? Who has what it takes to get this done over us? The Wizards by trading Beal? They’d have to gamble on AD sticking around to play with Wall in over a year, because he’s not playing next season. Those other teams I listed trade their best assets and they have nobody left to play next to AD and he’s worse off than he was in NO, so they’re taking a huge gamble on him. Trading AD to us for a package that benefits both teams just makes the most sense to me. I think Boston can still get in on this too, but they have to give up Tatum, because their picks are weak now.

I’m concerned about a party crasher too but I think Klutch gives us a bit of an edge.

has to be someone we're not even considering right now. i mentioned philly offering simmons. could be stuff like that. just think of folks that you don't imagine moving. i will say that a derozan type makes zero sense for NO (it did make sense for SA).

long time between now and when this kind of deal is ideally consummated. hopefully, we've got multiple irons in the fire, but the davis situation just makes too much sense. sometimes, that's the kiss of death in the nba, though.

Small update: Kurt is pushing Rob to make a counter offer soon. He's scared the Pelicans will trade him to New York or the Clippers. He wants us to offer the young core (Ingram, Kuzma, Ball) plus the pick and one future pick and be done with it. Rob at this point doesn't want to, but pressure is mounting internally.

Clips are a threat. Gallo, sga, shamet, several picks, and they eat Solomon hill. Probably could still swing a max, too. Hate that west is there and not here.

    Gotta hope klutch matters.
