I think that's good for both teams. I could live with that.

I mean, that lineup I put up there earlier is not my ideal lineup. It's just what I think will happen.

We'll have other players and a decent bench, but I don't see a big time free agent coming here.

I guess I could see Cousins coming here on a one year 20 million dollar deal. We keep Kuzma, and he comes off the bench. The issue I see is the pg pool this offseason is pretty shallow.

    https://hoopshype.com/2019/04/29/nba-free-agency-2019-point-guards/

Can we get Darren Collison here on a one year deal at 10 million or so? I don't know. Maybe get Cousins and Collison to split 30 million between them? 18 for Cousins and 12 for Collison? This is not a good pg offseason. Maybe if we can keep Kuzma we just say screw it and start him and let Lebron start at pg? Cousins/AD/Kuzma/Hart/Lebron?

I have very little hope for this offseason at this point. I think we do end up with AD, and I think we keep Kuzma simply because with Zion and Ingram in tow, Kuzma would be a bench player and they'd probably rather have a future first. Maybe Kawhi or Kyrie is coming. But I don't see it.

Assuming we send out Lonzo, Ingram, #4 for AD... how much cap space would we have left?

We don’t have enough for a max player, do we?

I still think gutting the team right before the young guys blossom is a huge mistake. Ingram and Zo are going to have break out years.
I hope AD signs with the knicks

If we were getting Kyrie or Kawhi, I might agree with you. But we need at least one more legit star. Two stars plus depth can win. One star plus depth can't.

Yeah, I was assuming we lost out on all the Ks and thus Butler is our consolation prize. I would rather go with what we have than sign Butler. Great talent but locker room cancer.

    Small update:

Pelinka did present "somewhat" of a counter offer to Griffin. I think he personally should have waited for Griffin to come back with another proposal and talk him down from there, but I'm not an NBA GM so I will not judge too harshly.

    Counter offer:

    Lakers receive: Anthony Davis

Pelicans receive: Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, #4 pick (Pelican's choice), 1 future top 12 protected first, 1 future pick swap

Pelinka offered to fill the rest of the salary with 1 year S&Ts or find a 3rd team. Obviously, even if they accepted this proposal, the money is extremely far off, so lot more to be done.

In any case, Griffin pretty much hung up the phone. I highly doubt this will get leaked.

    More to come...

    Best,
    Mr. Rambis

Probably an insurance policy against not signing a free agent. But it'll never work

Is this true? If so, why the need to fill the salary, can't they just absorb him into their cap space July 1?

for them, not for us. We have cap space, and they don't.

    Allegedly.

The goal is to sign a free agent first, that way, we can absorb AD via trade AND have a player like Kyrie/Butler.

There’s two ways NOLA can play this imo. If they want the most assets out of the Lakers, they wait until we sign someone and can give them more. If they want to “handicap” us from signing anyone in FA, they can make a “Godfather” offer like the one Pelinka sent that would make us take the deal before Free Agency begins, but we may still end up with 2 out of our 3 prospects vs losing two.

Assuming this is true, what's the next step? Think Griffin settles for Ingram added to deal?

It’s also possible that not cashing on young players’ potential when they’re still on rookie deals can also be a huge mistake. If they don’t break out but are just mediocre, you have to start to pay them more money even if not their max and that starts to take away from what you have to go after stars with. So we have to hope Ingram and Zo become stars, really more Ingram, this year, because if he doesn’t we have to pay him anyway, and then there goes the money for AD if he’s traded elsewhere and we still want to sign him in 2020. You’d have to let Ingram walk to do that probably, so either way you lose Ingram, but one way gets you AD in his prime to go after a title right now and to probably re-sign him for 4 more years after this one.
