I think he is frigging great, glad we have him as a Laker. I think he is better than he has shown but honestly, I am OK with that. He will pick his moments and I hope wisely.

I think a lot of this has to do with people's confirmation biases. AD and Russ in particular seem to suffer from this alot. People are looking for something and as soon as its shown - even in a small way - they disregard every other fact.

As an example, AD doesn't attack the basket or post up smaller players, but he is 1st in baskets in the restricted area, 2nd in points in the paint and 3rd in post-up scoring. Just because he doesn't do it every play doesn't mean it isn't real.

Don't even get me started on Westbrook - it's like people are just hoping for him to fail. He has bad games and everyone piles on. Anything good he does is just disregarded. Against the heat in the 4th he is responsible for 11 out of 12 makes with 0 turnovers - he scores 10 points, hands out 6 assists and gets two stops alongside playing great defence. Not a peep from anyone, all everyone seems to say is how we need to bench him in the 4th.

AD is doing great, but keep in mind he IS playing the 5 a lot more now. Which most of us wanted in the first place. He's a great center for the modern game of basketball and it shows.

I don't understand what is the problem with some crticisim. Should I postpone it till the end of the season? Should I postpone some of the disappointments? Why? I don't postpone praise or happiness?

It's part of being a fan.

AD, at times, plays passively. There is no denying that. He is doing much better lately, and we all are glad that he does. He also does things that are detrimental to team's and his individual success -- namely stupid a** 3 pointers and hanging in high post aimlessly.

Don't understand the need to come and d***-measure with "see, you guys were wrong" gloating as if, somehow, it makes you superior.

    ---

Some of us, when he doesn't play well, criticize him. We also praise him.

    ---

By the way, I still maintain that he will not hold up as the 1a of the team. So far, I haven't seen anything to the contrary. Numbers are not it.

Totally different story. Russ is a moron. He does a lot of good, which is quite often negated by dumb mistakes at most crucial times. And don't get me started on his D. We are not winning anything with Russ as the leading PG/ballhandler and he isn't good for anything else. It was a bad fit and I hope Bron will be able to negate it.

it's not criticism; it's indictment. it happens all the time, and it's not at all based in fact. that's the problem.

when AD has a small on him and the paint's open, he bullrushes the post. happens all the time. then people pick that one play where he got surprise triple-teamed and coughed it up with lowry as the primary defender and try to use it as exhibit A in the case against his masculinity. it lowers the level of discourse, which is what svtzr is saying.

still can't stress enough that folks were touting adebayo's alpha-ness when AD just punked the dude left and right in that game. not sure what those folks were watching, tbh.

narratives must be maintained, no matter how much denial is required.

i won't delve into russ here--as it's the AD thread, and i think it's different in several ways.

yeah, didn't see it, and based on previous comments (vs. reality), i'm going to guess he wasn't that bad. sounds like he had a good first half and outplayed towns, then towns (who's a very, very good nba player, got the better of him in the second). don't think AD made everyone decide to miss literally all of their shots, though.

my real question is about his quote: it's pretty out of touch to be talking about us not being a "title" team on the day we get blasted by a bottom feeder. technically, we're barely a playoff team, and that's with one of the weakest schedules yet. we've been demolished by two non-playoff teams in the last week. just re-dub jim mora's rant with "titles" instead of "playoffs".

Well, the best way to fix that is to shoot more threes, so his % has a chance of going up.

    Right?
