Yea, but I think we all know where his ceiling is...or expect it to be. Offensively, we're never gonna ask him to be the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or even 8th option. His defense is solid, I think we can all agree about that. If he continues to work on his offense to contribute a trickle now and then, wouldn't that be considered ceiling met? Maybe I just haven't been paying as much attention to him as you all have, but yesterday I saw him driving to the basket (and converting on some) and not just settling for the spot-up 3 or jumpshot (a few of which he converted too...3-5 from three). As far as AB goes (again, with realistic expectations), I thought that was a step forward.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying I'm unconvinced. The shots he did miss (he was 5-13 overall) were often not close. For a supposed shooter he has a shocking lack of touch. One of the threes he hit was a step-back three from the side that swished, but is that a good shot? When has he ever shown the ability to hit that on a consistent basis? I'd prefer if he could have hit any of the dozen open looks he had through the first 4 games. We spent most of Summer League trying to get this guy going and the game we lost in the playoffs might have been a win if he could have hit just a couple of the looks he had where he was wide open. On Thursday he went 1-5 and 0-3 from behind the three point line. He was a detriment to the offense as the Cavs just dared him to beat them. I'm not going to expect much of anything from this guy. We've gotten a decent sample size at this point and I'd say he's not an NBA player. I was hoping he'd prove me wrong in SL, but he was a disappointment.
AB needs to watch Bruce Bowen tapes for the next 4 months. He needs to continue to play good defense and shoot 3's 500 times a day. Forget running plays for him or having him control the ball. Spot up 3 man and D guy. That needs to be his role. If he improves in other things, cool, but he needs to do those two things for him to really help this team.
AB can be frustrating but I also think he has shown some steps in the right direction. Before giving up on him or dissing him too much I want to see what he looks like about half way through the season with Luke. I'm trying not to judge any player based on last season. He is putting too much pressure on himself to shoot well which makes it worse. Luke will get him playing good ball and have him taking the shots he should be shooting. Likely he will come around and start hitting a good percentage, if not then we will see. Byron did him a big disservice last season by putting him in situations he wasn't ready for. He was doomed to fail which had to have been devastating to his confidence.
He's a better defender, but you're right. George was only "so terrible" because he played on a team with ridiculous players.
Anthony Brown: Super Early Stat Projections He's tough to project right now. I honestly don't have a clue what his role will be. He might play 82 games, or he might be glued to the bench. Depends upon Deng's health and Ingram's progress. 38 games 15.6 minutes 4.0 points 0.8 assists 2.2 rebounds
The thing is I don't see him playing a lot of mins. Deng and Ingram at the three. JC and Lou at the two.
Another plate full of poopoo platter. He's going to have to play pretty phenomenal to change fans' opinions now. :Brick:
Those who perform like crap? Agreed. Hope he gives me a reason to delete the file. Permanently. Not holding my breath right now. Still looked mediocre against Summer League competition.
I'm semi OK with it on a plate if he is serving it up continually in games for us, or in his shoe, just not on his head or coming out of him. Eeeuuwww!! I never used a Garbage signature for anyone and was really taken aback with that when I first got to CL years ago. Even for reverse karma. UNTIL Boron the a-Hole this season motivated me to do so..... and even more.
From his last interview following the Utah SL game, it seems like the kid is aware of all the chatter going on around his shooting. Hoping its a reality check for him, I really want to like him -seems like a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. Hopeful he can regain his confidence within the first 30 games of the season, otherwise it may be his demise.
Unlike last year (when he was a starter for a stretch) he's our 3rd string SF. I'm not expecting much.
