I enjoyed this very much. It is still very much a stout, with it's smokiness, but the tart cherry is plenty present.
This is one of the hipster-douchey-beer-geek crowd's drool-inducers. If you know beer and live in southern california, you hear of the coveted Black Tuesday. I've had it in small tasters at the Bruery, and it was always very nice. But, to enjoy a whole bottle with my brother in law was a different experience (just look at that abv%!) It's beyond-words good. It's an absolutely perfect bourbon aged stout; bursting with silky and creamy-smooth vanilla, chocolate, sweet bourbon-soaked dark fruit, and toasty oaky stout. It hides the alcohol so well, which is dangerous. The cool thing is that I caught up with an old friend over a bottle of 2014 Goose Island Bourbon County stout just hours earlier, offering a fair comparison of the two. Bourbon County Stout is a PERFECT beer, but Black Tuesday is just a tad better.
Quite possibly one of the weirdest and unique beers I've ever had. It's a sour brown ale with coffee. It's not a brown ale with coffee/chocolate flavors plus a little fruity tartness. It's a SOUR ale with tons of coffee and chocolate sweetness. You'll either love it or hate it. I think it turned out brilliantly. I really enjoyed it.
Gift of the Magi: This was pretty good. I couldn't place the style of beer, as it was fruity and spicy like a belgian tripel, but also hoppy like an ipa and funky like a saison. I had to google it and found it's called a bier de garde, a totally unique style I'd never had.
9% ABV This dark sour ale was inspired by classic Old Fashioned cocktails. We fermented a velvety imperial stout with our house sour culture, then aged it in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels alongside sweet Bing cherries and freshly zested oranges to create a rich, tart stout that’s perfect for sipping on cold winter nights. I searched some reviews for this new beer and found only 1 review, which I thoroughly agree with, so I just copied and pasted. "This is a surprisingly successful effort at a really difficult style to pull off. Delicately balanced between sweet and tart, with a touch of citrus and cherry. Big bourbon on the nose and palate, rich mouthfeel. One of the better Almanac releases of 2015." If that tart cherry stout I posted about above sounded good, this one's similar, but blows it out of the water. It's very delicious.
I wish I could understand the appeal of beer and beer like substances. I've tried many types, got a few friends that are deeeep into beer (to the point they brew their own and want to open up a brewery in time) and the best I've ever had were still like drinking a bad tasting Root Beer or Juice. I just don't understand the appeal, although I find it fascinating how popular beer is when it tastes so bad to me. It's like everyone in the world is trolling me telling me this thing I think tastes horrible really tastes good lol
Its a taste that has to be developed. I totally get some people that say they all taste the same, or just have a stronger awful taste.. lol. But once you start drinking more (not to be hammered) but just start drinking different types, you begin to develop a taste for it, and begin to recognize different ingredients once you take a sip. I love beer, I'm not super into it, but I love me a good beer... Coors, Bud-light, or any of those nasty mainstream water-beers just doesn't do it for me anymore...
This is one of the highest rated, and most sought after sours out there, and i got to try it for the first time tonight. It surpassed expectations. It's an absolutely perfect sour; tart, but sweet and oaky and smooth. What a treat! So sweet and smooth, with tons of caramel and ripe fig.
Receives 1.75 Liters of Bombay Sapphire from Santa Claus. Have finally cracked it open. Tonight, however, it's Corsendonk Christmas Ale. Amazing as always.
Duuuuuuude! I mean, WTF...how did they pull this off? Imperial belgian sour brown ale + blueberries + cinnamon + bourbon barrel aged has to taste like rotten potpourri, right? NOPE. It's amazingly good! So balanced, with those flavors just playing off one another so perfectly. How is this place just a few miles fom my house bwhahahaha...
