http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...erry-colangelo-chairman-basketball-operations Even they are headed in the right direction while we are here tripping, getting up and then tripping again.
IF they nab the lakers' 4th overall pick in addition to their own top 3 pick this year, then colangelo steals most of hinkie's shine...delicious.
Ya know. I look at all those streaks Philly has had and I think to myself, "We haven't been a whole lot better and we're actually trying."
hmmm...which is more embarrassing? honest question. to me, at least it was an accident for the lakers. and I'd argue that their three young players are better than philly's. in a twist on my scenario above: what if the lakers jump them again in the draft? what if they trade that pick for a veteran star, attract two FAs and become a playoff team over night? how bad would that look for "the process"? in the end, they're still relying on luck, which is never a great bet. even if it works, I think it's still a crap plan.
I've read this was forced upon them by the NBA from so many complaints from other owners. The Sixers' tanking efforts have finally caught up with the pockets of other owners and they're pissed off about it. Nobody buys tickets to those games so out East there's at least 2 games in every stadium vs. The Sixers that aren't selling tickets. It's annoyed the owners and they forced the NBA to make Philly make this move. Embarrassing. And here we are right next to them. The only team to lose against them.
You can't make this stuff up. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source...antoni-as-associate-head-coach-053402648.html Good luck Nerlens, Jalil & Joel
dantoni's a great coach for crappy teams. he can make you respectable overnight. he just only knows how to play one way. I mean, his coaching epitaph will be that he's the only dude who could find no use for pau gasol. really? jacking threes? anyway, the nba conspiracy nut in me says colangelo going there means kiss the lakers' pick goodbye.
Yep I have the same feeling. They are going to get the #1 and our #4. Do they deserve it? Heck no but the owners want them to get better for business sake and this is the quickest way for them to do that.
I'm not sure. I don't think the NBA rewards them like that. They basically forced Colangelo to do this and I think THAT is how they're going to force respectability back on the franchise. I doubt they reward the last three to four years of blatant tanking with two top 5 picks. I could see them getting #1 though which is the only really important one.
colangelo is just always on the right side of things. almost too often. he was the guy who signed steve nash to what people thought was a ridiculous deal at the time. of course, he was also on the rules committee and knew the impact that the handcheck rule was going to have... dude's just an insider. I'm not really suggesting that the league is going to rig the draft in his favor, but he'll have competitive advantages in some form or fashion, imo. and it won't look like rewarding the horrific tank job, either, as all that is tied to hinkie. the coming success will be attributed to the league stepping in. you know, like how the chris paul veto has come to be viewed as the move that created nba parity. well, if parity means "*#$% the lakers." but i digress.
*shudder* stop making completely valid points that mean the Sixers will be gifted everything they need to be competitive while the Lakers keep losing.
what's this "5" you speak of? basketball is played with a 1, 2, 3, 4, and 1a. all shots in the paint must be taken on the run or they don't count.
