Zaire Williams would be a sneaky good pickup. We need to start stockpiling athletes that fit this profile.

if he's a good player, why does a sucky team waive him?

I'm not familiar with his game, but that seems like a fair question.

    Lol ok

As far as Duren/Kessler, I’d probably rather have the 7-2 guy that is a crazy good rim protector. But, then I guess those players tend to get played off the court in the playoffs, so Duren’s versatility at 6’10 is interesting. Still, would really love to have a BIG big man on the team again.

So, we are to the point of everyone wants to sign with the Lakers except our own players want to go ANYWHERE else?

    got it.

    definitely need a big

Curious about GS's path to AD. Do they have to ship out Jimmy Butler? Does Washington have ANY interest is what they have to offer? I thought the cupboard was pretty bare.

Ayton + Knecht + 2031 1st for Duren + Sasser. They could sign Rui with their cap-room.

No team throws out crazier rumors for possible roster builds than the GS Warriors.

I'm waiting for the Warriors want both Joker and Wemby next summer.

still think my three-team idea is the one:

    det: myles turner/knecht/big TE/2 1sts
    mil: vando/ayton/pick swap
    la: duren

det gets replacement center and enough cash to take in a good player, plus some draft capital to grease those trade wheels. we get our center. milwaukee gets off money long and short term and picks up a potential pick for the trouble (i don't think anyone's giving up a first for turner, and i don't know if they're hunting for a comparable 25 million dollar player at another position).

honestly, if det was out on it, i'd go ahead and just pursue the deal without them in it where we took turner while operating over the cap.

lol, you know who i bet loves to be dangled in trade conversations and won't be at all a problem if they don't happen? jimmy butler. i saw the quote in the article, but man...have you met this guy?

re: duren/kessler--kessler's durability concerns me a bit. also, i think his lower max makes him less of a poach threat. my continued idea is that the only way to nab duren is to pay him the absurd 49 million, for which kessler isn't even eligible.

though i'm realizing now--and a cap guru can check me on this--that the only way to give duren the big big bucks is via S&T. RFA offer might be limited to the standard max. i'm still trying to catch up to the new rules.

anyway, nothing prevents us from telling his agent that we'd take him in a 49m max trade, which i believe is possible under the rules (and tbh, even if it's just trading him into space for a giant TE, it's better for detroit to do this if they don't think he's even worth 40 per). i keep waiting for detroit to announce that they've signed him to just over the standard max amount, but it hasn't happened.

Oh god, someone take the internet away from Rob so he doesn’t see this, nobody loves kicking the can down the road more. 2027 plan! Aldridge! Yao Ming! Cap space plans don’t work.

Kings are interested in Robinson, too.
Most of the rest of it is Kawhi stuff and some other Clipp chatter

Laker fans look how Rob Moves.

everybody got mad. Why didn’t we get Claxton? We could’ve made a bigger play. We could’ve made a play.

Reason Lakers have plans for bigger better Center.

    Listen to Kendrick Lamar Euphoria.

    Luka wants an A-List Center.

    through these T leaves.

    Denver looking at Jaylin Brown.

I tried to tell yall. Maybe Jokic quietly told the Nuggets he’d like to get traded to the Lakers cause he wants to play with Luka. Remember Mark got Ohtani. He hunts the white whales. And he gets them. Hey Jokic.

all of a sudden Jokic wants to extend extension talks delay extension talks.

Chet Shai Williams all those guys signed thier extensions asap.

the Lakers let everybody make their moves Twolves Lamelo ball.

nothing from Rob. But like that scene in Goodfellas with the Eric Clapton song being played. We see all these nba teams drop as Rob gets his white whale.

    A-list center.

Lukas comments post game OKC in the playoffs.

there are only two A-list Centers Duran Jokic.

    Wembys under contract.

as much as yall want to say it Kessler is not an A-list Center.

Anthony Davis unless he’s coming back to the Lakers. And now this warriors stuff.

Laker fans meet Mark Walters he empty’s his clip and smiles and aww shucks as he detonates leagues. He’s about to detonate the NBA.

We are either getting Jokic or Duran.

Most likely Duran. But there’s that small chance it’s Jokic. Don’t waste your time on the trade scenarios.

But if Jokic just says I only want to play with Luka. Santa Anita Del Mar.

then what do you do????? So Rob’s quiet Marks quiet but Im sure the NBA is bout to get put on notice.

Cause we are either getting the baddest man since Shaq or an 22 year old beast who’s a walking double double lob threat.

We got the length 3-D Cam Carr. All I know is Lebrons gonna wanna be here to see this out.

    I’m here for it.

it would take a long time to get into all of our particulars, but in short: most "cap space" is illusory. like, we have 52 million in cap space assuming ayton opts in and smart opts out (i think), but we could also have zero dollars in cap space. why? because of cap holds. these are amounts that player contracts count against the cap in order to retain certain rights. for example, rui's cap hold as a bird rights player is nearly twice his salary. so if we wish to retain his bird rights, we cannot renounce those until we sign him. functionally, we have to renounce rui, lebron, and kennard to have access to that 50m in space. what does renouncing mean? it means we can't use bird rights to re-sign them. what are bird rights? they're cap loopholes that let you keep your players (you can sign them to amounts that would lead you to exceed the salary cap).

now, the wild thing that is that if you have bird rights, renounce them, and then re-sign the player anyway, the bird rights magically re-appear. it takes serious trust, but this can be exploited. i don't know if we're going that way, but we could if people played ball.

not sure if that fully captured it, but we're in a weird nether region where we could either have a TON of cap space or none at all. the advantage to none at all is that bird rights let us exceed the cap to keep lebron and rui, plus give us access to the full mle (15m). the cap space route makes you have to fit all acquisitions into that finite amount of space, and then you get the room exception (about 9m) on top of it.

this plays out most years with at least a couple teams, but it's pretty rare for us, as we're generally over the cap (our total guaranteed salaries going into the summer exceed the salary cap).

i think this is just jokic stands to make more money if he waits to sign, right? can't believe anyone would plan otherwise.

Jokic seems content where he's at. But if there was a chance, yeah, you do 1 year deals all day lol
