And if LeBron and Rich weren’t super salty about not getting the PO LeBron could have decided to play for similar money here and make the Lakers super strong with the additions. Yeah stoopid Rob. :D

Fortunately, this is no longer our problem and we can continue to build the next Laker dynasty. I fully support the moves Rob has made and didn't make. The last thing we needed was another financial anchor year. Lakers are back!!! Speaking of salty, most of the saltiness/negativity around here is based on a non-move and will hopefully fade sooner than later. The sun is shing on Laker Nation, enjoy it.

Most improvement happens in the early years of someone’s career. It’s kind of like a concave graph, there is a very distinct period of fast improvement where the graph is shooting up for the first few years of a career. Then the improvement starts to flatten out and every bit of practice afterwards has diminishing returns, ie: more and more effort but less improvement.

There is just a natural level to what people can improve on in skill and athleticism and IQ. Otherwise, if improvement had no bounds, you’d see hard workers shooting 60% from 3 as it’s just a skill.

Now, there are players that do improve in a different environment - when they get opportunity and a role that fits them - or maybe they had never really tried to improve and start actually trying to with deliberate practice. But there are less of these lazy talents in the NBA than hard workers.

So to summarize, most of the improvement is front loaded, a player like Mamu won’t really get much better, he could be used a bit better, but most of his development is done. A player like Grimes could show a bump because he has never played elite at both sides of the ball at the same time, that would be maturity and the right role happening at a time where his skills are already high.

Someone like Kessler can improve, he has started incorporating a new skill in shooting and development can happen here. Whereas someone like Sexton won’t improve much - he can’t just become taller to be a better defender.

So that’s why banking on potential isn’t good outside of young players or highly specific cases.

    That makes sense...

From my perspective, a new role, a new team, new training staff, and all that....would equate to a better outcome than previous seasons, BUT....I can see what you mean when you break it down that way.

I can't accept that WILL happen, but like....that's just me. So, not that your information is not valid...just I can't buy this circumstance playing out. Either way, you gave me some understanding of my plight, so thank you.

You just have to make the assumption that all NBA players have worked with decent coaches and trainers during their high school, college and early NBA career. So not much of a pop happens going from working with a good guy or a great guy.

You also have to assume that to make the very best league in the world, they’ve had to work their a** off. So it’s not like they’re just going to start training more and/or better. They’ve been working on their athleticism and skills their whole life.

So just giving them a new role or a new environment will very rarely do much because they aren’t improving their base line level of athleticism, skill or IQ.

You know what’s a really good example? 2013 Wesley Johnson - crazy athleticism, spends the whole summer shadowing Kobe everyday, we’re all expecting improvement. His minutes go from 20 to 30. And… nothing. Just nothing changes. New role, new environment, training with the best. And nothing.

Potential is good for young guys that have a lot of easy improvement ahead of them like Carr or Adou. But not for 27/28 year olds. You’ll just set yourself up for disappointment.

It's because of what Tyler said about him when he was talking to a random person on social media while using his burner

So glad we didn't end up trading for him as Austin's replacement

Daniel Gafford avg 11pts 8 rebs and 2 blks in Washington before he was traded to Dallas.

In Dallas he avg 12 pts 7 rebs in 2 blks during their Finals run.

PJ Washington avg 14 pts 6 rebs 2 assist in Charlotte

After being traded to Dallas he avg

    12 pts 7 rebs 1.5 assists.

The idea that Luka " made them better " is over exaggerated.
