I wish we had prime Marion though.

I knew I saw Kncet at summer league. I was like that looks like Dalton.

man I don’t know. We drafted this kid. Maybe this is the right roster for him. Keep our depth I feel like Vando is the perfect player for Kessler. We need some grit on defense.

We have nothing damn I’d like to see Dalton. Gotta give this guy up. Whats Kaminga bringing more scoring and athleticism. But damn I hate giving the depth up. But that’s just me.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. @SmoothOperator even mentioned it a few pages ago. Kuminga turned down 3years 75m from Golden State because he wanted MORE not less and his agent has made numerous mistakes with his clients on renewals.

With that in mind, Vando going out in an S&T allows us to offer 21.5m for the starting year which is effectively a 4 year 92.7m contract with 5% raises. Knecht + Vando allows us to offer 25.7m per with is a 4 year 111m contract.

The vet min was never a serious offer, and I think the 2 year 20m offer was insulting to be honest as well. We’re probably trying to find a solution somewhere in the middle.

There’s probably two ways that can go: higher annual average value, let’s say 25 million per year, but with team options or an un guaranteed portion. Or we can give him guaranteed contract with a player option if he signs for an average value of 15-20m per.

    I’d still rather PJ though.

    I don’t agree.

Grimes is a good POA defender man. Kessler is an elite defensive big. If we get PJ into the starting lineup that’s 3 defensive guys to go with Reaves and Luka. Heck even Kuminga is good at D when he wants to try.

Off the bench, well Sexton and Carr are gonna be offensive (at least until Carr gets his defensive legs underneath him) but Jake is a good defender, Mamu is decent, and if we can get one more defender in Jones, we’ve actually got a relatively balanced team.

If we’re playing drop coverage with Kessler and not switching, Vando actually works as the primary defender of the pick and roll. He is strong enough and has enough length to be a handful with Kessler. They’ll blow up a lot of plays.

When we play a switching defence, Vando jsut gets screened until we switch and it negates all his value. I just don’t think JJ wants to play him though because of the offensive end.

Kessler is a drop coverage big..that's his forte. Switching is not his strong suit: the lateral movement isn't there. Read up on this kid.

Optimistic perspective IMO. Grimes will make an effort usually on D..I wouldn't say that he's a " good" POA defender tho. However I still don't think Rob is seriously concerned about having a good POA. Probably wouldn't mind one; but it's not a must have. Dunn might be available across the hall

That’s what I said in my post. If we’re playing a drop coverage defense, Vando becomes more valuable. The last time we did that with Vando was when we traded for him with AD in the pockets season.

Even with that in mind JJ won’t play him.

Grimes is a good defender at the POA. He did a really good job during his Knicks days at it. Since he has been a chaser and has just been ok at it, he won’t play that role here - Reaves will who is decent at it.

JJ has room to grow as a coach.adjusting to the talent on hand is part of the job. As many times as we've faced Kessler in Utah , I'm surprised that there seems to be a little collective amnesia going around about how he plays. Ie..I used to watch Utah/Denver games specifically to see him against Jokic. This is with being paired with AD in mind.

In the paint back to the basket .. he more than holds his own. Once Jokic switches it up and faced him up..he constantly blew by him. Everytime they played each other. AD used to eat him up whenever he faced him up too. Kessler in a switch heavy scheme is going to be problematic
