looking like if wemby's healthy, everyone else might be playing for second every year. there's not really a roster construction that can counteract...whatever that was.

    1. F*** the Thunder, I really hope the Spurs take them down and they have to start losing key players ending their run.

    2. the level of basketball being played in this game is something our team couldn’t even dream of reaching, healthy or not. Catching up with either of these teams may be impossible, and if Wemby has arrived already..oh boy. That said you still have to try, injuries happen, luck happens, we have to get so much better it’s not even funny.

No Fox, career game from Caruso and Wemby just still took it. Nice one, f*** both teams though (OKC just a bit harder).

especially with him and Castle on Rookie contracts. It's a huge uphill battle to beat these teams with stars on rookie deals because they can go and get the best role players available and we can't match that.

the perimeter defense on both sides is astounding. just relentless pressure. people were mad at reaves, well castle was fumbling and spraying the ball all over the floor, too.

luckily, luka is kind of a major antidote to that particular issue, but it doesn't solve other stuff.

Caruso isn’t going to shoot 60% from 3 next game. OKC is in trouble… because Wemby can shut down the paint every night.

I think we can compete with OKC next year, but I don’t know how you compete with a healthy Wembanyama. That guy halves your attempts at the rim just from being close to the basket and then cleans up another quarter of them via his defense.

That’s why I’ve been saying we should embrace being a 3pt shooting team. Get a 3&D SF like Watson and you can play a rotation of Luka, Kennard, Reaves, SF, Lebron and Rui and just spam 3’s. Maybe even add one more vet min shooter and try to become a 40% team. Once spurs try to take away the 3, you have Luka, Reaves, Lebron, Rui and Kennard for the mid range.

The question is how do you handle spurs defensively enough to stay in it?

Wemby, if healthy, will lead his team to a three peat.
    He’s unguardable.

We would need two Dwight Howard’s playing like he did in the Bubble to have a chance at stopping Wemby.

SA is 6-0 against OKC this season, that is no coincidence... refs (NBA) will make this a series though :D

Just S&T LeBron for a young player, picks and filler so we can start to build a young, proper team.
After watching the Spurs in this game, we won’t be able to compete until we develop our own young core.
Maybe by then, Wemby will be on the downside.
Great job NBA at building a great team around the best player in the NBA!
Wemby is already three times better than the false MVP.
I told ya’ll the MVP “award” is a joke.

this is why I've been saying we probably can't win with Reaves and people get mat at me. The NBA has changed in the last couple of years, the athleticism and defense are off the charts now, and for Wemby, there's no answer.

we'd need Luka + Giannis + a few elite role players to have a shot.

You aren’t stopping Wemby, OKC only played Hartenstein 12 mins because he can just eat up the opposing big. You have to stop the other guys and stop Wemby getting the ball - I actually thought Caruso did a good job defending him.

OKC is just a bad shooting team, if they had more 3pt firepower, they could swing the series.

I actually think GSW from a few years ago would give the Spurs some problems. Green would be wrestling with Wemby downlow on both sides of the court while Steph, Klay and Wiggins would be hitting from outside.

I think with Luka you have a shot, he can call for a 1-4 high screen & pop and beat his man and get to the elbow with him on his back and then go for a mid range / hunt for a foul. If Wemby steps out, we still have the lob option. If help comes off the corner man, there is a 3, if the screen and pop tandem double, you have a Rui at the top of the key for an open 3.

Just spam it and hope we’ve got enough shooters hot to take the game.

I agree- that’s why I came up with the mythical “two Dwight Howards” scenario.
You didn’t just type “OKC doesn’t have enough firepower” did you?
They are super deep and have plenty of shooters.
    Caruso was 8-13 from three.
They have so many shooters, someone else will get hot in game two.
Free Throw merchant was off and Los Spurs did a masterful job of getting the ball out of his hands.
If Castle would have had half the amount of turnovers, Spurs win in regulation.
If they had Fox, they win by ten.
OKC might win one game this series, if the NBA seems it necessary.

Maybe Duren could be physical enough with Wemby?
I don’t know- all I know is that the Spurs are going to be extremely difficult to beat, even if Rob has two back to back years of building up a good team.
The problem with the Spurs is they have so many weapons that can hurt you if you tried to double Wemby.
