I have some hope that Pelinka, isn't as incompetent, as I tend to portray him. I don't anticipate Ayton, being the only move that he comes up with. I think we should pay attention to whether CP3, Melton, and Simmons, sign anywhere tomorrow too. Wednesday could be a big day for the Lakers.

Yeah forgot about Adams that they just re-signed for 10M+ last month!! Wtf are they doing? Is Sengun going to play at the 4?
It seems they are on a path to just steal guys from us lol

And yeah their cap situation is weird, they can't sign DFS and Capela without dumping some of their guys

I think once we get Ayton sorted out we will see a few dominoes fall pretty quickly.

As I said last night, I expect a trade.

I do not think we will stand pat or punt. Just makes no sense and would probably trigger everyone in the front office getting canned before the end of the year.

I expect movement over the next couple of days.

The 2027 stuff is a thing you say to not say you don’t think DFS is going to make it 4 years (or 2, really).

I believe we’re not signing old guys to deals past 2027, but I highly doubt we’re punting two full years of Luka’s prime, lol.

I guess that was the contentious point in the negotiations with DFS. We are offering only two years

you think he’ll be worth it in two years? I don’t. And no, you can’t just trade that. A quiet back story to this FA period is a bunch of teams can’t even clear smaller salaries off the books.

I fully support not paying DFS the money he got. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t a nice player or brought some good things to the table, but there needs to be a convergence of talent, impact, age, availability and salary that makes sense when you have max level stars taking up 2/3 of your payroll.

I didn’t feel the money fit our situation.

btw, most painful for me from day 1 was denver getting off 18 million in salary for mpj (of whom i've never been a fan and thought he was a glaring weak link in their team) AND upgrading to cam johnson.

yeah, they got an unprotected 2032 pick from denver (likely to be a good one), so i get it for the nets a bit...but weren't they asking for several firsts and a useful player before? feel like they came way down on their asking price.

you have to look at the nearly 20 million in space they ate up with mpj as a potential extra first. i'm sure we'd have sent a first or at least a swap there if they facilitated a trade for us by eating gabe and/or kleber, for example. and other teams have been looking to shed money to free themselves up and/or make trades, too.

but anyway, denver got bailed out in a big way, and that sucks for us.

Yeah I don't buy that 2027 discourse. It's ridiculous. We were top3 in the West, top5 post-Luka trade, he has an extension to sign and we're putting everything on hold for 2 years? And why 2027 when next year pretty much the whole roster bar Luka and Vando expire? Including Bron and AR?

I'm waiting for better clarity on this before judging, it seems far fetched

i think it's a story that is easy to believe if you hate the front office, but otherwise very hard to believe.

like jsm said in his rant, FA clearly hasn't been the path to success lately. basically every star player extends and doesn't hit the market. but thinking that rob doesn't know that is pretty strange to me and reeks of "scrambling" (the idea that he didn't know the cap was...pretty f***ing stupid).

not meeting DFS's price doesn't mean we're going to hoard cap space for two full years--again, two years during which we employ luka doncic. everyone focuses on lebron having one more year left. i'm not. and neither is the front office. but they're definitely mindful of maximizing luka, and just refusing to make any moves that add any salary in 2027 is moronic. and it's not what's happening.

Well people are discussing the 2027 angle because it came from McMenamin who certainly has better sources than anyone in this forum and ESPN isn’t running that without something credible because unlike bloggers they actually are worried about being sued. Plus it’s not that far off from statements we’ve heard from the front office in the past.

I think it’s just gamesmanship and running the same angle they consistently do but they could’ve kept that from being out there if they didn’t like it.

you can't get sued for riffing about plans.

when the lakers make a move this week or this year that cuts into the theoretical 2027 bonanza, the new story will be that it was just so great that they scrapped that plan. when it was never the plan. it's a nice way of not saying they didn't think DFS was worth 4 years of commitment.

to be clear: is it your belief that the lakers front office's entire plan is hoarding cap space for free agents in 2027?

I have literally stated at least 5 times that I don’t think we will punt the offseason.

no I think it was a variation of what we always say.

But, ESPN drops something and people are going to discuss it.

No different than the LeBron chatter that I also didn’t put much stock into but understand the discussion over it.

That’s a wrap. Everyone can now shift to making him the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong next year.
