Speculation is that they were probably going to move on from Jenkins in the offseason anyway, so they want to get a look at one of their assistants now rather than risk losing him to another team if they did a full coaching search in the offseason.

Obviously the timing is surprising, but I'm not shocked at Jenkins being gone. I think Ham pretty clearly made the better tactical moves in that 2023 series. Jenkins feels a little Scott Brooks-ish to me. Good at taking a young team to fringe contender level, but doesn't have the tactical prowess to hold up in the playoffs against teams with equal or better talent. There's a reason why they can't beat any good teams. They run an extremely simple offense and don't have counters to teams that can shut off Morant from getting to the rim.

If he wants to image rehab or take a year off from the stress, I'll gladly take him on the bench. Brooks can slide down a seat.

I get that. If there is a target in the open market you like, you also get first crack at them (like the Hawks did with Snyder). But this close to a highly competitive west. Man, that's a choice.

He did overachieve with that group and they are stuck, but i think it's roster and not coach. They need to pick J3 or Ja. I am not sold on either being a winner either.

I think JJJ is the better and more reliable player, but Ja is the face of the franchise. It's a tough call. I hope they pick Ja and JJJ comes here with Luka and Austin.

Pretty sure something embarrassing will come out soon on that situation.

Oh man, the next best big(IMHO) that can replicate what AD does. They wouldn’t let it happen- would have to be another Nico situation. Rob, you got any other close buds that may work for the Grizz?

    Genius coach from Europe
And of course Ja is closing to return

Maybe even tomorrow vs Lakers .

Having Morant in the lineup would be a strong boost. He's going through the Grizzlies' return-to-play protocol with hopes of returning soon.

"He's been progressing in his on-court workouts," Jenkins said. "It's a matter of hitting top-end speeds to make sure that hamstring is in a good place when he's comfortable enough to return."

The Grizzlies parted ways with assistant coaches Noah LaRoche and Patrick St. Andrews along with head coach Taylor Jenkins, sources told
    @ShamsCharania

LaRoche had a major influence on Memphis’ shift in offensive philosophy this season

Now, if Lakers will play vs Memphis in playoffs it will be completely different team

Not shocked. Hornets have a lot of Maine ties. If they land Cooper, ship Lamelo to Brooklyn so those fans have a partial reason to go to games, and just build from there.

Durant suffered a left ankle sprain during Sunday's loss to the Rockets, and head coach Mike Budenholzer suggested he will not travel with the team for Tuesday's contest. Durant will undergo an MRI on his ankle Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

i wonder if we show up on day 1 of FA with the tpmle for him, does he take it?

    capela/hayes/kleber
    lebron/DFS/vando
    rui/knecht
    luka/goodwin
    reaves/gabe/bronny

we'd be under the apron by a bit (assuming capela and hayes each get about 12 per combined) and could use the vet mins to sign athletic wings with upside?

though i still think we probably consider moving kleber plus either vando or knecht for a center in the offseason.

It's an option, and I feel Capela would still be productive here. Given some minutes, he can give you 10/10 and protect the rim fairly well. I'd be OK with Clint/Jax depth at the 5. Maybe we could do better with some trades, obviously.

Would Miami consider trading Bam? The Lakers have the contracts to match his salary and first rounders now available plus Knecht

If we address the frontcourt with the MLE (whichever one we end up having access to), I'm watching the situation in Sacramento like a hawk. If Sabonis asks out this summer, everything is available. Can you take on a contract like DD and give them expirings and draft compensation if they're willing to include Carter (who they don't play enough) and Ellis (who they're not going to pay). I'd be willing to get a little reckless if we can add both to our defense. Talk about banshees -- Vando, DFS, Ellis, Carter.

no way miami does this, imo. we don't have enough draft capital, and knecht isn't a good enough centerpiece (they'd want reaves).

feel like sabonis would also require reaves, AND i'm not sure sabonis/luka is a great match on either end, but particularly on defense.

i really don't think we have to swing that big, either. we got luka. we need to get the next holiday type, should one become available--and not that archetype necessarily, just a guy who can be a championship role player who can give you 30+ playoff minutes at the highest level.

Sorry if that wasn't clear. I think Sabonis is in play this summer. I don't want Sabonis. I want their scraps that don't make sense for them to invest in during a rebuild. If they move him, there's no reason to hold on to the parts. If we can nab Capela with the MLE or something similar, then we can use our tradeable assets elsewhere.

We need a boost in backcourt defense. If you can pry away Carter and Ellis, I'm willing to take on one of those deals they don't want during a rebuild (Like DD). Ellis will be in the final year of his bargain deal and Carter they're not playing enough to keep him off the table. If you have Luka and AR as your backcourt for the foreseeable future, those are exactly the type of guards you want behind them.

no, sorry, dinner wine got me (again)--your point was clear upon review. and yes, i could see them moving ellis/carter for knecht/1st if they already moved sabonis, and i could see how that could be good for us.

    My dream offseason is:

    1. We open up the full nontaxpayer MLE (I think this could happen if LeBron takes a pay cut, obviously a big if and we'd need a guarantee a player he likes would take it)
    2. Sign Alexander-Walker to the NTMLE (he's exactly the kind of guard you mentioned that we really need next to Luka and Austin
    3. Use some combination of Kleber/Vando/Gabe/Dalton salary to get a center (Kessler, Mark Williams, Gafford, Claxton, etc.)
