You are missing the point here. It is not just Austin for Dennis. That would be awful. It is the Kessler trade and this trade working in conjunction with each other. Knecht + 31 1st + 27 protection removal likely wouldn't be enough for Kessler, so adding the 1st trade sweetens the pot for Utah. It's a little nuanced, I know. But teams need to get creative in this apron environment.

 

Two separate trades!

(1) Kleiber + 2025 2nd to Indiana for Neismith

(2) Reaves + Wood + 2031 1st (top-14 protected) to Indiana for Turner + 2031 2nd

-Lakers get a 3 and D center and 3 and D POA defender guard

-Pacers get a guard on a cheap deal who has proven chemistry with their point-guard (USA). Also move up likely 20-30 spots in 31 draft.

He is only under contract for 1.5 more seasons. He has a player option after 25-26, where he will most likely opt out.
