It's a mid round pick, most likely 2 seconds.
Because it's top 13 protected, then top11, then top8 and finally conveys to 2 seconds in 2028 if needed

It's about the same statwise actually. He has some issues with both.

KAT to NY always made sense being from Jersey and the ties to Rose, but the timing...Definitely left field. I think it gives Minny more balance, the two center thing was never going to work long term and they sold the farm to get Gobert so you can't trade him.

NY gets a bigger name and better player when both are healthy, and they needed a center after some injuries. Ny fans though, they'll turn on him though.

Minnesota wanted to save on tax dollars. Getting Randle who's going to a FA next year will save them money and reduce their tax burden.

As for the basketball fit, agreed it's questionable lol.

certainly good news for the lakers. one less big man in the west to worry about

knicks are loaded with weapons going into the season and might just give boston trouble

can't see randle's game fitting well with gobert or edwards. sucks for minny fans. they finally had something good going for the first time since the KG days and realized they wouldn't be able to afford all those contracts pretty soon

I'm not sure Lebron or Rui can do anything with Jules, on defense either though. Donte is a solid pickup too

Thibs runs his players into the ground and then scraps them. Hope Julius is ok. Ran him heavy minutes.

Mark Williams got injured and will miss 2 weeks. He really looks injury prone so probably Nick Richards won't be available for cheap. Let's see who becomes available, it would be nice to get a center without trading our top8 guys, so using vet mins and JHS while not using a FRP. It's Cooper Flagg so maybe we find something

I feel like this gets glossed over too much. The pursuit of Klay involved trading DLo and didn't require Lebron to take a $20M paycut. The idea that the Lakers passed on Valanciunas is not based in reality. While there were early reports Lebron might take a paycut to help in FA, it became abundantly clear it was never going to be that massive. This seems pretty cut and dry.

I don't see how this is possible considering Minnesota paid this for Gobert

    • Malik Beasley
    • Patrick Beverley
    • Leandro Bolmaro
    • Walker Kessler (No. 22 pick in 2022 Draft)
    • Jarred Vanderbilt
    • 2023 first-round pick
    • 2025 first-round pick
    • 2026 pick swap
    • 2027 first-round pick
    • 2029 first-round pick

KAT was a steal, and I'm not even a big fan of his. Randle has a lot of health issues, DiVincenzo is okay, but lots of players like him available at the min or MLE every year, and then just 1 pick.

I'm not sure what the Gobert trade, has to do with a KAT/Randle trade tbh.

From a practical standpoint, Randle is owed 59M over the next two seasons, KAT is owed 220 over the next 4. I don't consider KAT to be the superior player, to tune of almost 26M more, per season..Hell no..I do not.

With Gobert and Naz Reid, up for player options next season, I don't think Min considered KAT worth that much cash either.

DiVincenzo is a solid role player, that started 63 games for the Knicks, and shoots 40% from 3. He's on a cheap contract for the next 3 seasons. Throw in a future FRP, IMO..Min won that trade hands down.

Comparison between the cost of Gobert vs cost of KAT.

Having put some more thought on it and listening to some opinions, it was clearly a financial move. They didn't want to pay KAT all that, which can be understandable. But I think basketball wise they lose considerably. In isolation, KAT is better than Randle in almost every metric. Better scorer, better creator, better passer, better shooter. Although I saw a post where Minny was 12pts worse per 100 possessions with KAT on the court. But I think that without him their offense will struggle and be even more dependent on Ant, who is not the best consistent decision-making player.
Gobert is also unplayable in the playoffs often, so they lose a solution they had for that, those KAT/Reid lineups looked nice.

Overall, if they didn't want to pay that money, they had to do it and received a good enough package. But I think it may open future problems for them and Ant definitely has the persona to ask out whenever he feels he's not competing for a title. I think this is a step back on their contention and actually brings closer the possibility of Ant being a goal for us after Bron.

Finally, I was never a fan of KAT and Gobert together, so maybe Randle fits better. On other hand, KAT and Gobert was the best solution in the West to beat Denver, so they may struggle if they find Denver again

Let's see how it plays out.

I agree. Minny became much worse unless Ant can leap another level this season(becoming a consistent go-to guy every night).
Can KAT’s body hold up to the minutes Thibbs will demand of it?
I’m claiming “no,” but I do applaud the NY FO for going for it.
I also question Randle’s fit next to the over hyped Gobert, but understand why he was moved.
I will continue to root for Randle(for obvious reasons) and for NY in the playoffs.

I don't think that Naz Reid and Keita Bates-Diop could replace KAT for 82 games. .Naz would be somewhat similar to Montrezl with better 3 point shot but ,no way Minnesota is better after this trade

don't think there's a worse shooting frontcourt in the entire league than gobert/randle/mcdaniels
