are we sure magic was a big part of it? i think the fact that magic played here was a big part of it, but the fact that he was in the front office was a small part of it. i mean, we basically fired the guy 18 months later, and lebron seemed completely unperturbed by it.

and my guess is magic AND lebron will be involved in recruiting our next big name (unless lebron has already bought another team or something).

this is my point about the brand. lightning strikes lightning rods.

My understanding is yes he was and LeBron wasn't happy about him quitting. But, naturally a part of that is how he quit.

It wasn't the be all and end all as he clearly wanted to be in LA and Kobe was naturally a behind the scenes factor but recruiting was the one thing Magic was actually good at and should have been his role all along.

    That's a tangent though.

The brand is huge and has kept us afloat no doubt. Could it play a part again? Yes.

Despite everything including Magic and Co passing on him, Tatum would be guy I'd think that would apply to.

Magic actually had too big a mouth to be a long term solution. He felt like he could operate above the rules and talked like it in public and on Twitter.

I’ll just say I was very vocally against the hire of Magic to run the team and went back and forth with Vash and others about the hire way back then.

However, I always give credit when it’s due and he was a part of successfully landing LeBron

You know what, looking it up, he is. I guess I was just thinking about championship continuity having him playing behind some other guys, or him being an injury insurance guy, but no, he’s better than a lot of what they have at that position. Solid pickup for them, that sucks, I’m going to be a big Knicks/Bucks/Pacers/Heat/Sixers fan this year, gross.

it again all hinges on horford, imo. he was healthy basically all year and most importantly in the playoffs. if he's not there, things could fall apart against any decent competition, imo. but he keeps visiting the fountain of youth. you can't rely on porzingis, and you have to put luke kornet in a ballgame, that's trouble.

i like him at sub-mle money. he's got flaws, but is one of the best backup pgs in the league and seems like a winner to me.

Horford is such an underrated player for him. They survived with KP because of him. KP makes that offense special but Horford on defensive ability , combined that you can't just leave him open smarts is such a killer.

you put Horford on the Lakers (not KP, Brown, Tatum, White, and my man Holiday) and I think they win the title last year. These super star role players are such huge difference makers

If the Lakers are just going to run this back: trade Gabe for Hedgehog and thow in a a few second rounder to make the Nets want to do it. The salaries are about the same. Dlo will get mad for a few days but we know that backcourt trio of Reaves, DLo, Hedgehog is a solid playoff caliber rotation. hedgehog provides good POA defense and the rim attacking adds a variety to the offense to the Lakers don't have. I like adding continuity back into the team as well

Wish this team would at least try to improve on the margins if they aren't willing to pull a big move like Lavine (hell I'd try to do Gabe for Hedgehog deal especially if you move for Lavine)

yeah, i agree. take horford off boston they lose. add horford to our team, we win. that important. just so rare to have a guy who can bang with the biggest centers, defend adequately in space, and hit threes.

i suggested the same early in the summer, but i'm actually still open to the possibility that gabe is as good or better than schroder (assuming he can get on the floor). i wouldn't be mad if we did it, but it could be pretty lateral.

i've registered my interest in a lavine deal. i'll be curious to see how that plays out. chicago must have just gotten crap offers, and i'm guessing we didn't even make one. will we look foolish (lavine returns to form and there's a bidding war we can't take part in) or smart (lavine stays injured and the bulls wish they traded him for any offer)?

If he's your 7th or 8th guy, you're a good team. Easy as that.

I didn't see us as a team waiting for the trade deadline this year, but I guess no deals can be better than bad deals

We better be waiting to improve this team come deadline time. Unless Wood gains 30lbs and turns into a monster on D, it’s going to be really easy to score on us, again.

We play AD 35-38mpg, so I don't think a bruising center makes a difference unless you're playing Jokic.
I think Vando heavily improves our defense. Gabe should too as well

I'm more worried with our perimeter defense as we get killed there with only DLo, Reaves, Bron and Rui. We saw the difference Dindwiddie did. Effing Dindwiddie lol
So with Vando and Gabe I think we improve exponentially
