that was funny and well-done, but i'm guessing any other have-not team could make a similar case. fringe players and overpaid vets take paycuts or get moved to teams in win-now mode. bound to be associated with titles.

btw, in another thread i was saying how losing dlo to open up the mle is kind of a bad proposition, but i did forget one thing--starting this year, the ntpmle can be used like a trade exception. so you can absorb players into it, potentially with sweeteners. it's unlikely to yield much, but it could be a way to pick up some draft capital in addition to a useful-but-limited veteran that some team in tax hell wants to dump.

Just so I understand correctly. So the Lakers could absorb say a Bobby Portis 12.5 if they are far enough under the tax using the NTPMLE?

Asked before … does anyone know if we are out of or in repeater tax territory this season? That’s a real “bleeper” for Jeanie’s >>> Rob’s budget concerns.

as i understand it, yes. this is a new thing, and i'm curious to see how gms use it.

i'd love to get portis. i'd start him next to AD. milwaukee's over the first apron with just seven players and cap holds, i think.

doubt milwaukee does this while they're trying to contend, but things like this are now possible.

I think yes .At mark in 165 294 million set luxury tax threshold in 23-24 season. The club, which by the end of the regular season exceeds this limit, is forced to pay tax to the NBA treasury at a progressive rate. « Tax repeat offenders » – teams that paid tax in three of the last four seasons – pay even more.

Well that makes things more interesting now doesn’t it.I used Portis because I saw that the Bucks are only about 4m under the second apron.Yeah seriously doubt it would happen as well. Thanks for the information

Thanks you Amazon and new TV contract for 75 billion
The Sixers could sign Joel Embiid to a three-year, $193.5 million extension this summer
Is the deal still a no-brainer? For context, Embiid would make $59.7 million, $64.5 million, and $69.3 million during the three years of a new extension
    Are you f***ing nuts:Laugh:
He's a new version of Kawhi
At 30, he’s in the prime of his career and would be locked up through the 2028-29 season. However, critics could argue his extensive injury history might make a new extension cost prohibitive. Embiid would make $59.7 million (2026-27), $64.5 million (2027-28), and $69.3 million (2028-29) during the three years of a new extension.

He has missed 336 games — the equivalent of four seasons — since being selected third in the 2014 NBA draft. Despite that, Embiid is still one of faces of the NBA
The team is also expected to re-sign Maxey, an All-Star point guard, to a five-year, $205 million deal.
And how in hell they can afford to get Paul George too

Yeah, you have to give that contract to Embiid. When he's actually healthy he's the best player they've had since Moses in the 80s, it could be another 40 years before you have get another Top 5 guy. You just have to hope he gets a healthy postseason. Some of his postseason injuries like the orbital bone fractures are just fluky, but he's had a couple of knee injuries now. I'd be nervous about giving him the contract, but I don't think they have much of a choice.

They will never win with Embiid.
He’s very good, but not at staying on the floor.
