This is wild, I can’t believe a guy gave up that much money, especially a relatively small guard, their games tend to fall off quicker so you’d think they’d try to make as much as possible in their prime

He's making 150 million. I imagine he would find it difficult to spend that much in a lifetime

Where’s @Slick2021 and his saying players don’t take less money?

Huge gamble that he will be able to recoup that later.

He won’t, IMO. Small guards that rely on athleticism fall of quicker than anyone else, I can’t believe anyone would do this after what happened to Isaiah Thomas. If they don’t win it all now within this contract I don’t see how he won’t regret this. Dude lives in NY, this is generational wealth we’re talking, personally I don’t see why anyone should do this.

I think we as a society forget how much money these guys make. Jordan made a total of 98 million. Kobe in the entirety of his career got half of this Brunson contract.
Brunson with this contract will achieve a quarter Billion. These guys are filthy rich. You buy Real Estate and invest in some companies and just enjoy life forever.
    I understand him.

He never thought he would be the main guy in NY competing for a ring. He is now and chose to capitalize it. He has all the money to do whatever he wants. But he couldn't buy a ring and he just made an offer. He will have a few years playing basketball at the highest level and being The guy, that's worthless imo when you're already a millionaire for life.

Oh yeah. I completely agree with all your points here.

There’s a zero percent chance I would do this if I’m being honest here. Lol

Plus he’s playing with his college buddies. Cool gesture to make sure it continues.

Oh yeah. I keep forgetting the Knicks President and GM Leon Rose is Brunson’s godfather and Rose’s son is Brunson’s agent.

So who knows, all those family ties this could actually work out for him if he avoids injury. We will see.

Really cool to see him do something like this to make sure the team will be able to keep his boys... but I'm sure he's confident doing this when he has family in the front office.

Yeah. Easier to make that choice when you’ve got so many ties in the front office.

Imma guess at least some of it is going under the table to family. No doubt in my mind.

Was watching Irwin’s podcast from yesterday and there were a few interesting tidbits

He mentioned that after hearing the Wendell Carter buzz, he checked in with his sources who told him that the FO HAS been in discussions with Orlando about WCJ for a while, but that it’s similar to the Grant discussions. Orlando claims they like Carter and not desperate to move him, so they’re sticking to asking for 2 FRPs and the Lakers are not willing to meet that price

Also mentioned that on Trent, there is some internal pessimism that Trent would accept the TPMLE. If he does, it would likely take some time as first he’s going to survey the league and exhaust all options to see if he can get a bigger contract. Mentioned that Trent still sees his value at far above $5.2 million, so if he did eventually settle for that, he’d likely want to be promised a solid role so he can try to rehab his value

Irwin framed it like he has the sense that IF Trent did show a willingness to accept the TPMLE, the Lakers would be willing and able to shed the necessary salary to make it happen
