This is still where I’m at. 1 year MLE deal for DeRozan financed fully by a Lebron paycut, I wouldn’t complain one bit (even if it did require something like sending a second rounder elsewhere to dump one of our minimum players)

But anything that would require dumping one of our rotation players, even someone like Gabe? Hell no, not worth it given the age/fit concerns

 

Yup, MLE for DeRozan is completely fine with me. At that point its a bargain on talent alone. But no to a sign and trade.

 

and again, i'm not sure people are understanding the level of paycut lebron has to take to use the mle. it's way more than the mle itself!

we're at 190 and need to be 13 million below the first apron to offer a full mle. that's 166. lebron's taking a 50% cut to get valanciunas, derozan, even klay...it was never offered like that. lebron said he'd take a cut to facilitate a s&t, i'm sure. that cut would have been much smaller, closer to the 10 million or so that we're over the first apron. those deals just don't make a lot of sense for us.

I don't think the game plan, going into free agency, was to expect Lebron to give up cash, for some guys they weren't expecting to be available, in the first place.

The roster was already full, trades was the only moves we could make. Rob knew this when he gave out all those player options

 

Thompson and Derozan weren't expected to be available.

 

I doubt he expected Tinkerbell to opt out too.
