“The Lakers, to be clear, have made Austin Reaves off-limits in those talks, but league sources say they are willing to package their lone available future first-round pick in 2029 with D'Angelo Russell’s trade-friendly contract to get a deal done.”

This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.Is Murray a better player than AR or isn’t he.Would the team be better with a Murray/DLO back court or the one currently constructed? I get it AR is a quality player but in the end what makes the team better?

it's an interesting question. AR's salary would require that another player be added. who's that going to be? does the protection on the pick change depending on which guard we move?

finally--murray's leaving a situation where he was basically asked to play out of position at the sg because there was a high usage pg next to him. while dlo isn't trae young, would the fit issue be similar?

The Dlo package gets them under the luxury tax threshold

You really pose some great questions here. My two cents:

    1. Rui?
    2. I would assume so.
    3. He would fit much better here IMO, considering they are both really combo guards and that Murray would have plenty of minutes initiating the offense. Dlo does just fine being the primary initiator, or 3-pt shooter. Realistically, he's the best 3-pt shooter on the team. I think he's hitting around 42% right now, and that's no joke considering he takes 6 a game. If he's not always initiating, I'd honestly give him the green light to shoot 2 more. With both of them here (plus Bron when you need him), you'd never be without a good ball handler/playmaker on the floor.

Yeah. Been thinking this myself. I still feel like a lot of the AR is untouchable stuff if just talk. But if Murray is better than DLO I don’t see how he isn’t better than Reaves too. And I’m in the “smaller move to address specific issues” camp.

I want to highlight these stats regarding Murray, Trae and Bron

Dejounte's numbers the past two seasons without Trae (9 games):
    25.6 ppg
    8.6 apg
    5.3 rpg
    46.7 FG%
    37.7 3FG%
    88.1 FT%

-Trae is 9th in usage at 31%
-Trae is in a 1st place tie with Luka for time of possession @ 8.5. The first Laker on that list is Bron, 25th @ 5.1.
-Trae is second among all NBA starters in seconds per touch (only Ja is higher) @ 5.75. AR is the first Laker on the seconds per touch list @ 4.25. You have to go midway down page two to find him -- 77th I believe.

Murray's final year in SA, when he was an all star, he put up 9.2 APG. I don't expect that here, but I think he's capable of much more than his current work load and current numbers on both sides of the ball. Trae is a black hole who dominates the ball and who is extremely difficult to build a defense to hide. No Murray can't do some of the fancy passes that DLO has in his bag, but he's more than capable of being the primary ball handler which is what he'd be here with Austin and Bron acting as second and third ball handlers.

Yeah agree. I like Rui for what he CAN BE, not for what he IS. I think it's sensible to move him. He may become good, but at this point is more worthy as a trade asset than as a player.

Again, if for the right guy.

Yeah, I think we have more moves to do in addition to Brown, so it's easier for other teams who can go all-in on this one.
Also a bidding war I wouldn't want. Don't think it makes sense to throw a FRP in our scenario

Hmm, Orlando is full of guards. Cole Anthony, Suggs, Fultz, Black...they are already having problems to play all of them.
Detroit too. Cade, Ivey, Hayes and Sasser (who looks really promising but struggling to find the minutes).

I think the Knicks could bite. They lost Quickley and need some boost off the bench. They have Fournier's expiring. They may pursue other guys first though.
Miami could make sense too, but his pairing with Herro is just awful so I highly doubt it. I think they want a POA as they have playmaking with Herro, Butler and Bam.
I like the fit with the Nets but he was there already and is redundant with Dinwiddie.

It's really hard to find a team for DLo, he may have trouble getting more than the MLE in his next contract.

Capela makes no sense to Miami. Bam is an established 5, but who knows. Talked about Dlo fit above too. But they wouldn't say no to that trade I imagine

Don't think we want Bogdanovic contract, is quite long and not exactly a piece you want to get attached for 4 years at that price

    On Murray's deal being coveted.
I strongly doubt it. I don't think it's the best Atlanta could get and all our deals with Rob have been a secret until they are set in stone, so I don't think it is happening, sadly

People will hate Murray the moment he will miss open shots especially open 3 pointers.

Jeannie with all her foibles knows the fans, we love our homegrown talents, we grow attach to them. Caruso Reaves Ingram Zo Nance Hart and especially Zu

There’s 7 drafted Laker players on that list and we only kept 1. Not sure that speaks well of Jeannie’s wanting to keep home grown talent.

I believe the DLO trade helps them financially and might be the only reason they squashed any AR involvement. They could still send JHS I believe but then would be taking on money.

It's not crazy to see Spurs throwing Keldon Johnson and an Atlanta pick back for Dejounte.
They basically get 2 FRPs out of Keldon, who with Vassell and Wemby, is the odd man out to get more playmaking to pair with the french. Dejounte fits perfectly there and fits the timeline. Probably gets back to his previous form, now with an even better team. It would be a problem for the league, they would be one piece away after that and with a lot of picks

I don't want guys coming off the board before we make our move. I don't want Scary Terry, but I want options out there for us to help in negotiations. If they think we can and will walk from the table and to get x instead, it's a much better negotiating position.

I hope this is leverage to use against the Hawks. I like Brown and he can help any playoff team be better, BUT not with our limited assets. There's bigger needs that'll cost less.

Also curious where he's getting his ATL info from. Local coverage in LA and ATL say otherwise, as do Haynes and Stein (Stein's word is about as good as it gets in that industry).

Yeah I still don’t get the Brown interest, at least not for DLo, not for a first round pick, I don’t see how that improves us, it’s a lateral move at best. If you’re going to trade him and assets, it better be a move that turns us around, I’m not even sure I see a move that does that on its own, only maybe multiple.
