Not exactly. They'll take headlines of rumors and either pull it out of context a bit or make it a bit exaggerated for clicks.

My go to tells for deciphering whether a rumor account is legit or not:
1) who's credible that follows them?
2) do they source their info? if so does what that source says on their page match what they're saying?

I’m convinced ATL could get at least five different offers that will beat ours if we don’t include Austin.
That being said, I’m not even trading him(and others) for The Eagle and LaVine.

Why does our FO consistently look for the exact player type that they just traded away, or let walk out the door the previous season???
Maddening!!!!!!

Because the Westbrook trade royally screwed a huge asset pile the Lakers had.
f***ing nuts but Kuzma, KCP, and Caruso each by themselves are more valuable in the trade market by a significant margin than Brick. It's crazy - like KCP is worth 2 first if f***ing DFS is worth 2 firsts same with Caruso and Kuz

The Bubble team gets dragged because of well the Bubble but that team was awesome. It would have won the title each season if they had kept together and of course didn't age (Rondo and Howard that was their last good years)

Lakers Trade Rumors: Dejounte Murray Deal Discussed with Hawks Ahead of NBA Deadline
JACK MURRAYJANUARY 12, 2024

Could Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray be an option for the Los Angeles Lakers?

In an appearance on NBA Today, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Los Angeles is in communication with Atlanta about a possible trade for the guard.

NBA on ESPN@ESPNNBA
"Dejounte Murray is the player that they're engaged around the league with. They have talked to the Lakers." @wojespn on the Hawks' plans for Murray. pic.twitter.com/Bt7eire6Dy

"Dejounte Murray is the player that they're engaged around the league with," Wojnarowski said. "They have talked to the Lakers. They've exchanged some ideas on a potential trade."

While the interest is there, Wojnarowski said that the Hawks will look to recoup significant value in the trade and the Lakers will have some stiff competition in that regard.

"They want to get some value back for him," Wojnarowski said. "You look at that Lakers roster and you see what of value do they have that can compete in the marketplace."

The trade rumors involving Murray have been ramping up in recent weeks as the Hawks have stumbled to a 15-21 start to the season. The 27-year-old is averaging 21.1 points, 5.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 36 games and could be a dynamic add for a team looking to make a postseason run.

The Lakers certainly fit the bill. The franchise is coming off a season in which it reached the Western Conference Finals, and it even took home the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament championship earlier this season.

However, some tough stretches recently have the team sitting at 19-20 and in 10th in the Western Conference. The Lakers need to turn it around, and adding Murray could be the perfect jolt for the lineup.

As Wojnarowski mentioned, meeting the value required to get Murray is easier said than done. However, it could be an excellent pickup for a team looking to contend with an aging LeBron James.

we're just over the tax line right now. it's why i suggested a dlo/tyus jones swap with us adding an asset. it's a downgrade in talent, but it cuts the tax bill enough to add biyombo (or other vet min pro-rate cut) without exceeding the tax.

anyway, there's a reason we left that 15th spot open all year despite all our injury problems. and it's about that tax. the cynical framing is we're cheap (and there's definitely truth to this), but one could argue that strategically it makes more sense to wait, too. no telling who gets cut loose in the coming weeks. the clips got theis for nada. we might be waiting on such a thing.

Dlo/Rui/Gabe for Jones/Kuzma/Gafford? Not sexy but you get better at each single position and the numbers work

Lavine/Caruso works I think for Dlo/Rui/Gabe/Prince. My head keeps going back to this

C: AD/Bismack
PF: Lebron/Wood
SF: Cam/Vando/Lavine
SG: Lavine/Max
PG: Caruso/REaves

That roster makes a lot of sense in terms of fit similar to how Denver has guys with different strength and the team gets frighteningly athletic. I know that contract but it's tempting (and don't bring up Westbrook: I was total fan of KCP/Caruso and Kuz and the fit never made sense)

You now have 3 very good wing and guard stoppers in AC/Cam/Vando plus Max coming into his own
You have two legit shooters who can do a lot more on offense in Reaves and Caruso so no more praying for one dimensional guys like Dlo and Prince to get hot.

I tend to agree with this. Particularly with Murray.

Lavine looks really good in these last two games TBH. his defense looks average not as bad as dudes like Prince/Dlo and he's just at another physically than anyone not named AD/Lebron on the Lakers

This times 100%. ZERO chance of getting 2 firsts for DFS. Put down the pipe.

Any trade that involves LaVine, I’m still against. Even if he’s free with not asset exchanged. His salary is toxic and if he was on the Lakers, sports writers would be saying we need to give up 2 to 3 picks to get rid of his albatross salary.

lavine is a great player, but his contract is just awful and he's way too injury prone for my liking. with our luck, he'll get injured in his first game as a laker and miss the rest of the year

i think along with the three point shooting, we maybe need to stop thinking about this stuff as luck. for whatever reason, guys get hurt here who stay healthy elsewhere. just like guys shoot threes well before and after they play here, just not here. at some point, it stops being a matter of chance, right?
