Would be near impossible to root for CP3 .

He's a backup at this point of his career also.

he's been less committal than reaves, and i think it's because he's still holding out hope the pacers get drunk and offer him 20 per. doesn't want to close the door on it. and i don't blame him. he might be a guy who gets one big contract, so he has to make it count.

The teams with the largest guaranteed contracts for 23-24, heading into the offseason. Where do you guys think the Lakers will end up?

    1. Golden State- 211M
    2. Clippers- 201M
    3. Miami- 173M
    4. Atlanta- 169M
    5. Denver- 168M
    6. Phoenix- 165M
    7. Philadelphia-164M
    9. New York- 164M
    10. Boston- 163M
    11. New Orleans 157M
    12. Milwaukee- 156M
    13. Washington- 148M
    14. Brooklyn- 145M
    15. Toronto - 144M
    16. Minnesota- 144M
    17. Memphis- 138M
    18. Lakers- 127M

The 2nd tax apron is 179.5M. Let's say that we can keep D'Angelo and Malik for 30M combined. Rui and Austin for 25M. That puts us at 181M.

Keeping D'Angelo for 20, and letting Malik walk, would put us at 171M. How far over 179.5M do you guys think that we go?

Chris Paul at this point is Steve Nash 2.0, old damaged goods from PHX except worse. Anything above a minimal salary for him is out of line.

I'd rather focus our resources on getting someone from the draft like Cason Wallace for a PG.

btw, how do they have us at 127? our only guaranteed contracts are lebron, AD, vando, and christie. i think that's right around 100. add reaves and you're at 112ish.

    1 or 2 of lonnie/schroder/beasley is gone.

    definitely here:
    lebron 53
    AD 41
    vando 5
    christie 2
    reaves 12

after that, you can stay under 179 with this:

    dlo 20
    rui 15
    schroder 5 (apron exception amount)
    lonnie 5 (using non-bird rights)
    bamba 10
    #17 pick 3 (!)

with the above, you're right at 170. you can fill out with vet mins and be comfortably under the super tax with trade wiggle room.

if you love beasley, you can dump bamba and let lonnie walk and be a little closer to that 179, so i don't see it.

and there's plenty of room for creativity from rob with trades using beasley or bamba and/or the pick.

once the finals end and teams can start formally talking with their own FAs, i think we'll get a little more clarity.

Yeah..they were counting Beasley and Bamba. Austin and Rui at 27M puts us at 127M instead. That's a much better starting point.

Perk is losing a some of the goodwill he’s built up from usually relatively good takes on air with some of this crap lately. IMO.

CPaul is what fans are hoping Bron doesn’t start looking like health wise. His body has already started falling apart, and he always had a gift for it happening at the worst times.

we’re pretty cash strapped. I hope if he comes, he comes cheap. We’re still going to need a backup ready to potentially start up to 50 games and the playoffs.
