If it’s a back up PG you want I’d take Tre Jones over CP3 at this point in both their careers

Sure, bring CP3 in. Our track record for getting aging stars to produce is so stellar in the Lebron era.

not a fan, but if we sign him, can we bring back Rondo and Pat Bev just for giggles?

How do you sign CP and DS for 20mil? We can't do that
Turner is also not available for that package

Ugh I’d rather keep Dlo than sign CP3 and I can’t imagine them sharing Pg duties without playing time and who starts drama.

And if we let Schroeder walk for CP3 our point of attack defense walks out the door with him.

    Just No

i think something like this happened. my guess is paul was a little surprised by the waive being brought up as a serious possibility, got mad and used his mouthpiece to get out in front of it. then, phx called him and said to calm down, the door's still open for lots of things.

honestly, now that phx has said the waive is in play, paul may make as much money returning to the team on one of the lower exceptions as he would on the open market. i don't think anyone--even the big cap space teams--would claim his full value off waivers.

i guess houston's been looking for a real pg and wants to stop sucking ASAP?

i'm not sure we're going to be in play here, despite the obvious connections.

Agree. Plus Ham will not have the stones to bench or lessen CP3’s minutes when he will inevitably suck.

Paul can still play, he was 5th in the NBA in assists at 9 per. He's just a little dude that stays banged up, he played around 60 regular season games. The body normally wears down in the playoffs though. You might get lucky, and he makes it through the playoffs, and you might not. On a cheap contract, he's still a bargain for another season or so. The end of the road is around the corner though.

Idk.He's a weird story, he was always hurt in the playoffs earlier in his career, but prior to this season, he'd been pretty durable in the playoffs after that 2018 Houston/Golden State series. That kinda defies logic with his previous injury history. On the cheap, he's worth a look IMO. He's been more reliable than Kawhi or Paul George.

The wildest thing is that considering his injury reputation. He's played in more games than Lebron, AD, Dame Kawhi and Paul George, going back 4 seasons!

i feel like he's come up lame in every playoffs in the past several years. just because he played doesn't mean he was himself or playing well. inevitable soft-tissue injury after a certain number of games. he's just old. it's sort of a miracle he's made it this long on that one knee of his that's been basically bone on bone for ten years, iirc.

and yes, on a vet min, i (and every nba team) take him. but you better have another pg you feel comfortable playing in the playoffs.

I get your point, I'm skeptical of little dudes period, but seriously he really has been more available during the regular season, than the guys I listed above for 4 or 5 seasons now. He was pretty solid in the playoffs too.I wouldn't look for him as my starter, but he's really worth more than a vet minimum contract. How much more is the question. If his ego can deal with being a part time player, he can help a lot of teams. The Lakers included

Not only it's 8 guys (or 7+1) as you learned after in this thread, but a concept people forget is there's regular season depth and playoffs depth.
Playoffs depth is those 8 guys. Pat Riley said it the best: "(In the playoffs) use 8, rotate 7, play 6 and trust 5".
Regular season depth is 11. Where you can sustain injuries, be competitive every night and get enough wins to build a winning chemistry within the group. That is not everything, but it then translates in postseason with a shorter group.
That's why 3 stars is so difficult to work. You need plus 8 for the regular season and it's hard to do it with vet mins. Let's not forget those Miami LeBron teams had Bosh on a discount and Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis, Mike Miller or Battier on vet mins. Or Warriors Durant had Green and then Iggy, Looney, West, Livingston. Although those 4 were the best combination of skills within a team we have seen in the last couple decades

This is why I say we should get CP but treat him like Westbrook. He starts and all, but the second his production is bad in a game, get him out and put in Dennis or whoever.

I’d love it if we could revisit and pull off the Hield/Turner deal. Feel like with CP, the team could be better. Then it’s just keeping the rest and signing people to vets.

    too mad Melo retired.

Hell, how badly does Dwight want to come back from Taiwan? Again, the universe owes us AND KOBE, so maybe it’s worth it now.

I get all that Pika, but those guys played heavy minutes all season too. It might just be their year. This 3 star thing, is how the contenders in this league operate IMO. It's just a difference of opinion, between what's being perceived, as a " star".

It doesn't have to be 3 superstars, or future Hall of Famers. That's not what I'm talking about. If you have 3 players making over 30 million dollars, you are a 3 star team. Less than 9% of the League, makes that kind of money. Those guys aren't to be considered just role players, there are teams in the NBA, that don't have 1 guy making that much money.

On the flipside, Atlanta and Memphis, I believe, are the only playoffs teams that didn't have at least two. Lakers, Nuggets, Heat and C Bags all had 3.

There are exceptions..some guys are old and riding out a contract, some guys are too young, to be able to get that kind of contract right now.

That would have to mean Harden opting in and Ayton out in a 3 team deal. Unless Philly thinks they can make that twin towers work, which I don't see.
