That's what it sounds like to me. What a clown show.

 

All this proves is James Harden cannot be trusted and he is hurting his value.
No team wants to deal with him knowing the baggage that he brings.

If I was Harden, I would have just sucked it up, balled out this upcoming season, and try to secure a nice contract to end his career with.

Instead, he's making it virtually impossible for a team to want to take a risk on him knowing that even if they do, he will just disappear in the playoffs anyways.

If Morey promised he would give him a max contract, then Morey deserves some blame but ultimately, Morey made the right decision... You can't play the way Harden did and then expect Morey to not abandon the contract he originally promised you. He would be doing the franchise, fans, and the NBA a disservice. James Harden is 34 years old. He's not getting a max contract anywhere and no one wants to pay a 35 year old guard who doesn't play any defense, disappears in the playoffs, and brings so much baggage with him.

going back on one's word usually happens when you're making the technically correct decision. but i think morey's serpentine ways have finally caught up to him. the business is also about relationships. that's how he got harden back in the first place.

 

It's two-fold, though. You can't play like poop and then go back to management and expect to get rewarded for it. Whatever Morey promised was obviously poorly handled and that's why you can't make promises like that especially to aging players. If Harden was 26, Morey would gladly offer him a max contract. The issue is Harden is 34, trending downwards, and still consistently underperforms in the playoffs. I'm sure Morey had a talk with the Sixers management and decided that they can't pay him that type of money. It'd be impossible to trade Harden if Morey made that move.

 

harden played basically exactly the same way he's played since leaving houston. he actually subjugated his stats to play a different role, which surprised the hell out of me.

and again, to quote lebowski, morey's not wrong, he's just an a******. but being an a****** is problematic in his role.
