I think Philly doesn't want anyone from the Clippers. Like Portland with Miami.
They want a star player in return, they don't need the picks, they are in win-now mode with Joel. And they are at a big risk of having him asking out too

Same height 6’7” as Max Lewis but 4 years older at 24 and 9 lbs heavier at 204. I bet Max is better than him this year.

Yeah, wasn't wowed but he managed to get MVP couple years ago. So there's some skill there. I'm all for getting as many wings in the pipeline as possible. Hell, if we want to stock like 8 of these similar profile players on South Bay, I'm down. We went without for so long and they're so hard to secure on reasonable deals.

Agreed. I think many, many people are sleeping on Memphis. I also think Smart was a perfect addition to that team and if healthy, they should be a very dangerous team. I won't be surprised at all if they finish with one of the top records in the league and make some real noise in the play-offs.

I think they're going to shift too much in season. They won't know who they are until it's too late.
    1) JJJ is going to have to adjust to having Adams back.
    2) Smart is a culture setter. He establishes the team vibe and then Ja just fits in? No.
    3) Ja will be back after 1/3 of the season and then they have to figure it out all again.

Best case scenario for them is Ja learned his lesson and he goes the straight and narrow from here on out. Doubtful and there's those in the organization who are concerned too (per today's ESPN article).

I think they're a better team on paper (No more Brooks), but there's too many changing variables throughout the course of the year to contend with the depth of the loaded West.

I wonder if they bring Ja back after the suspension, show he's healthy, and then trade him at the deadline. That could be one helluva stacked team depending on the return.

Ja may need a change of scenery, and to leave his Dad in Memphis.

Those are all valid points, but I still think they have enough talent and have shown the ability to overcome adversity in the past. To be more specific with respect to your arguments:
    1) Yes tha's true, but still, having Adams back is is better than him sitting injured on the bench. They can work him slowly into the rotation and he's still a very good player (IMO).
    2) this is the main area of concern for them. If Ja still doesn't get it, they're screwed long term. That doesn't mean they won't be good on the court this season though. His "issues" haven't impacted his production but rather his availability so far and the team did very good both with and without him. This is not to dismiss his issues, but at least as far as I'm aware, they were mostly off the court (??). I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be able to "learn" from a true professional and "leader" like Smart. Actually, adding a guy like that seems to be the best way to get to this little punk. Whether it works, we shall see...
    3) he missed significant time in all his seasons played so far (considering his age), but the team did well without him. They seem to have a system which works both with Ja and with him out.

I'd also add to that that they have lots of young talent which could / should show further progress this season.

Anyway, I actually like their team and style of play (now that Brooks is gone) and hope Ja is finally able to become a professional and mature human being. If he does, they have something special on their hands. Again, we shall see.

why would trading a problem child star before he finally implodes be an insane idea?

completely rational if you are already good without him. Depending on the return, you could be great.
