I agree that we are in a nice spot right now where we can be picky and wait for the right move to present itself (if we even end up needing a move at all).

We've got the balanced and deep team that most of us have wanted for several seasons now. I don't think we should pull the plug on that too quickly.

We should have some sense of what the team actually needs come December 15th when we would be able to make a deal anyway.

Also, with the way teams continue to let guys force their way out of town, there is always the chance another player could try to force their way out. We've got enough solid players on good contracts to be in the mix on more deals than we usually are.

philly routing harden somewhere for assets to move to portland for holiday makes sense to me.

really don't want the clippers to get holiday for their spare parts, which is what i think is going to happen.

pretty sure that's what miami is thinking, too. we're going to be on most if not all short-lists for such players. and some of them come out of nowhere. you don't want to have emptied the cupboard when luka declares that he's ready to move out.

I would also think the Sixers would have some interest in Holiday for themselves.

I definitely think they will be in the mix once trade talks start getting serious.

that was my point, but sort of in reverse: the sixers would want to move harden (maybe to the clippers) for pieces to get holiday, but the clippers would rather just get holiday.

i do think that whatever miami can get for herro + one more asset could probably net them holiday, who's a great fit there.

a team that i think should be involved in a lot of these conversations is orlando. they could use any of harden, holiday, or herro, imo, and they have pieces to move. toronto's another team that could use this kind of guard help and has the pieces to get it done.

Honestly getting Holiday for the Lakers is not just about improving the team but keeping him away from other contenders. The dude is an ideal #3 on a title team: defends like hell, is a good PG in terms of bringing the ball up against pressure and running plays, and while he's an inconsistent shooter he'll beat up on mismatches if you try to hide a weak defender against him.

sure; but we literally can't do anything about it right now.

Definitely true. A testament to that is that we have a package for Jrue if we wanted too, couldn't happen a year ago.
We'll be in all superstar trade talks from December on. Just hope we don't do something stupid like going after Trae. I trust Rob

Right. We can definitely be in the mix on any major deals if we want to be.

I gotta think we will pass on any bad deals if we are playing well.

We are in good shape here. I love Jrue and would like us to go after him. But we can’t until December anyway. We will see what we have and our strengths and weaknesses by then. Not sure if Holiday will still be available by then but he might.

I still think he’s a great fit here - last time Ham had him he won a championship with Jrue being the second best player. He has a great chemistry with AD already and he is sort of the anti Westbrook if you want to bring that up. He’s not a stat chaser or selfish player, he’s a five time All Defense guard with good size and he’s clutch as can be. He’s also a great locker room guy. He won teammate of the year 3x.

I've always liked Holiday, for some reason I enjoyed those early 2010's Doug Collins Sixers teams. But Holiday is going into his 15th NBA season; he's the same age as Dame but has played in 137 more games. He's got a lot of miles on him and said in April he would retire after 2024-2025. Any trade for him is probably costing us Rui. Would have loved for him to have been a Laker at some point, but it doesn't make sense now.

Holiday is the same age as Rondo was when he helped us win a championship in 2020.

Rui is a keeper at 24 years old. D'Angelo..not so much IMO. We are stacked as is though.

This is all hypothetical but I think it's a nice discussion.
I think Jrue is better than Rui will ever be. Getting Jrue means being a main contender the next 2 years. Rui staying or leaving doesn't change our title odds, imo.
I love Rui and think he'll be great for us. But he's not a needle mover. He's likely to be in any trade talks for a superstar in the next years.
I think Jrue in the team gets us more rings than Rui (and Dlo together)

We do lose future flexibility if we get Jrue, he's unlikely to be an attractive trade asset when his window with us closes.

It's pretty close and completely understand both sides

Rui is good young player but even on his hot streak, he's still probably at best a very good roleplayer
    1) vs Memphis: outstanding
    2) vs GS: unable to played due to bad matchups on defense
    3) vs Denver: pretty good but his offensive production dropped after game 2

Jrue OTOH is a guy who is going to see 40+ MPG in each of those series and no more easy time for Murray and Morant bullying guys: that's over with Jrue
