for such a dominant player, he is actually surprisingly limited

to me, if you are a good opposing coach, he's the star you want to see on the other side because it's possible to severely limit his game with good scheming.

as opposed to say, jokic? probably. but few others right now. his limitations were there when he dropped 50 to close out the nba finals. i'm not trying to trash giannis; he's a top-3 nba player and lock for the HOF. i just think it's likely he doesn't age well. he probably has at least a couple more years at this level, but the conversation was about whether you want him coming here in a couple years, not right now.

and all that said, i'd obviously happily take him even on the downslide. i'd just prefer say, luka.

giannis won't break down because of his work ethic or anything like that

it's 100% his style of play that will break him down quicker than most players. he's constantly going hard to the hoop and drawing hard contact. that's not a formula for longevity at all and his nagging knee injuries the last few seconds are just the start. he's really going to have to work on his shot and post-game for when he's not able to have success going hard to the hoop anymore

shaq, on the other hand, broke down because he never much work into his body. he was already breaking down quickly once he reached 30. very sad considering what a freak of nature he was and crazy to think how much more dominant he could have been

NBA official Eric Lewis retiring after 19 seasons; NBA closes investigation into his social media

NBA referee Eric Lewis is retiring after officiating games for 19 seasons, the league announced Wednesday. His retirement is effective immediately.

In light of his decision, the NBA has closed its investigation into Lewis’ social media activity after his alleged burner account on X (formerly known as Twitter) received significant attention in May. An account with the handle @CuttliffBlair gained notoriety due to posts from the account commenting on Lewis and the games he officiated.

Game 1 of the Western Conference finals had been his most recent reffed game when the posts began circulating.

In prior tweets, the account argued with fans and analysts over Lewis’ officiating. In one tweet, sent on April 5, the account tweeted “Congrats.” in reply to a tweet from George Mason women’s basketball announcing the contract extension of coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis. Blair-Lewis is Eric Lewis’ wife.

On May 25, a post in response to the discovery of the account said the account belonged to Mark Lewis, Eric’s older brother.

In @CuttliffBlair’s final tweet, the user said “This is MARK Lewis. Right family (older brother).”

“I’m sorry that I put E, in this situation, but this ain’t Watergate. You’re right, the account WILL be coming down. Twitter should not be this vindictive,” the tweet read. “Sorry to inconvenience you.”

After the posts drew attention, the NBA opened an official review into the matter.

Lewis began officiating NBA games in the 2004-05 season and worked 1,161 regular-season games during his career. In 2008-09, he joined the playoff officiating ranks and has reffed 89 postseason contests.

Giannis Antetokounmpo became a co-owner of the Los Angeles golf club.

Giannis Antetokounmpo invested in a Los Angeles TGL golf club co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy . The Milwaukee star forward's investment was joined by his brothers Thanasis , Kostas, and Alex.

The all-star group of LAGC owners includes tennis legends Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Retiring to duck the punishment. Damn, it was going to be bad.

C Bags do owe him though. Maybe they'll hire him as an officiating consultant.

guessing they found basically indisputable evidence of bias in his games, and they didn't want to publicize it and have another donagy situation.

wasn't he the guy who let tatum foul lebron in that boston game last year (that cost us the game)? bet his record is littered with this kind of stuff.

The NBA’s response is not good enough. Retiring him isn’t good enough. Yes, it’s a black eye for the league, and they should have caught it, but this is worse IMHO.

They are ducking their responsibilities in finding the truth. Now if you tell me he lost his retirement after working 19 years, I’m a little closer to being happy. Professional sports has no room for corrupt referees.

silver probably forced him to retire so that they wouldn't have to release all the dirt they had on him. guessing it was some pretty bad stuff

zero transparency or accountability from the league when it comes to these scumbag refs

Yeah, the problem is people will forget about it in 2 days and no one will care.
This really smells bad. I'm glad he's not officiating anymore anyway

think so, but it doesn't matter, as i think the real story is that his entire family are huge C Bags fans, and he's given reason to believe that he's not an impartial official.

this is the worst, though, should have been fired on the spot:

can you imagine?! i barely react that strongly sitting on my couch!

and while i understand exactly why the nba shut down the investigation, they can't think we're idiot children? how many more of these gusy (aside from the obvious scott foster) are there?

NBA: “Here’s the deal, we let you retire relatively unscathed and you keep your mouth shut about how shady we both know the league and the refs are.”
Lewis: “And what if I publicly blow the whistle (pun intended) and bring you down with me?”
NBA: “You remember Donaghy? He tried, and we gaslit everyone, convincing them he was a lone wolf, rogue ref. We ruined his life.”
Lewis: “Ok, tight -lipped retirement it is.”
