Right. Didn’t know about the push. But ask Markieff Morris how that blindside forearm shiver on Jokic (and then smugly walk away with back turned) worked out for him. Dude missed half a season with whiplash.

OK, hadn’t even seen the incident before, and this clip and your comments put the “push” and the punch in context.

Got it. Dude was clutch in our title run. But that’s 3 years ago. Haven’t kept up with whether he can still play.

That's one area that I don't think is getting enough attention. Sure, while AD is out, we can involve him some, benefit from the scoring and hope he outscores his opponent. But when we're healthy, I don't think we're going to call his number and draw up plays for him. I'd rather get a bucket from AD, Bron, AR, Rui, DLO, Gabe or Max. 7th-8th option offensively? If he's not scoring, there's no reason for him to play. Whereas with Biyombo, TT, or potentially McGee you don't have to call their number for them to help the squad.

I think he's a more potent scoring threat than Vincent or Christie right now. Its fair point, though, whether we need another scoring option at all. It's more so whether we want to have AD at the 4, floor-spacing 5 look as an option.

I don't because we're invested in the those two. Vincent is our only FA signing on a 3 year deal and he's the only one entering training camp in a camp battle for a starting spot (right now the other 4 spots are fairly set according to reports) . At $11m, he's going to be involved and I think he's going to be given a lot of opportunity offensively as our 6th man.

With Max, it's a contract year. He's going to show out and we're going to be trying to gauge his worth on the team moving forward.

Wood would be a one year mercenary and just another stop on the map until he either uses this to get him a better deal elsewhere next summer or end up in China because it failed.

Just watched the section of the clip you cited, and that’s not how I interpreted it.

“I thought that the report of Chicago being a very real threat, felt to me like Christian Wood’s team kinda poking and prodding the Lakers a little bit. ‘All right look, we know you can’t give us extra money, we know that we can compete for a starting gig… how about you promise it? How about we actually see what we can put on the table here’. I threw that theory out there to some folks, and got back from them, ‘Yeah, it tracks’”

I believe you mentioned earlier that Irwin does seem to have some legitimate connections. I’m not doubting that. But everything he said was all very speculative.

Folks saying “it tracks” about his theory that the emergence of a Bulls was a negotiating ploy to get a starting guarantee from the Lakers is not remotely close to a report that “Wood’s camp wants us to promise him a starting spot”.

I appreciate you sharing the information and I’m sure you were just trying to share the pertinent points as you saw them, and I don’t even necessarily disbelieve Irwin’s theory. But I think it’s important to be precise. I could totally see a bunch of the Wood detractors on this forum reading your post and running with it for the next few days as a definitive “See why would we want Wood?! He’s making selfish demands and is going to pout if he doesn’t start!”

Fair and thanks for giving it a little color. Punched it up as it came across on the initial listen and didn't massage it after.

Yes, it's more of a hunch that wasn't discredited when mentioned to those who would know vs. a ESPN News ticker item. To compare, he mentioned he asked those who'd know if the team would've signed Hayes if they had any idea Wood would be sitting there and they were noncommittal on that front. So the fact that starting gig narrative was not treated in the same regard, gives it the concerning weight from a team who Woike said has been researching Wood.

There's a good chance the Bulls are interested, they are interested in all our former players or targets. They lack originality in that regard. It's also likely that fresh money became available and his agents rushed to the United Center (is that still what it's called?) with their hands out. And any way they can play that new roller coming to the table against other interested parties to move the leverage meter off of 0.0, they're gonna.

I think if there was significant money for him out there, he would've snatched it by now. The league has decided his value. Depending on how the trade market shakes out, maybe there's an avenue for him to get above the min. but not by much. Before FA it seemed his market was between the two mid levels. I wonder if the back-of-the-cereal-box agency that represents him junked that up too, like they did the extension talks. If his reps don't see him as a minimum player, if he's talking to a team who can only offer that, it's logical they'd want comp points elsewhere -- role/ minutes/touches.

He's not jumping to bet on himself on a prove it deal and with already playing on 7 NBA teams and 4 G-League teams, that's his right because if this next stop doesn't work then he's off to a country where he won't speak the language.

Why can’t these guys just type in coherent English? Not forming sentences correctly shouldn’t be a thing.

Absolutely agreed with you on most of those points.

I do find it believable that his camp would ask for a starting gig, and I’m not even necessarily mad at that. It’s part of the negotiation, if you’re settling for the minimum you want to make sure that’s the optimal situation to raise your value for the following year. As long as it’s not a demand, I don’t mind Wood’s camp trying for it. I don’t see it as a lack of commitment to winning or anything like that, it’s just business.

The key is that if this is being brought up, the onus is on the FO to respond with an unequivocal “No, we can’t guarantee you a starting position. If that’s going to be a problem, we should go our separate ways”

If Wood’s camp understand that stance and is comfortable moving forward with a bench role, cool. If they take issue with it or show any signs it will lead to resentment down the line, yeah you don’t want this guy on your team.

I’m so tired of this guy already. Nobody wants to pay him more than a minimum or give him a starting spot because he’s not going to stick, again. He’s unreliable and every GM knows it.
I honestly hope when the music stops, there won’t be a chair for him to jump towards.
