Im old enough to remember when they said this about McAdoo,Jordan pre Phil and Pippen and more recently Kevin Love before leaving MInnesota. Its a pretty silly statement in my opinion.

What’s a silly statement? If you are referring to my post I didn’t make any statement, silly or otherwise. I asked a question. It’s a good question to ask regarding Wood.

If you want silly, maybe consider how silly it is to compare Christian Wood to Michael Freaking Jordan, McAdoo or Scottie Pippen; three top 50 players of all time. No one was dropping them like a hot potato 4-5 years into their career.

Darvin Ham’s love of guards led to him trying to bring Aaron Brooks out of retirement

Except nobody compared them.Just pointed out how silly it was/is to say players who put up stats don’t help their teams win as if one stat is more important than another.those players would forever be labeled empty stat stuffers if they hadn’t landed in the right situation….see how silly that is

Yep and exactly the reason he's available for cheap and may only get the vet minimum.

If he believes in himself going to the Lakers is the way but I think even he may agree with your assessment that he doesn't have the intangibles that make the difference between talent and actual winning. Otherwise one year deal where he shines like Monk and DS while playing with Lebron and AD makes a lot of sense. Big bucks await anyone who does well on a good team. He certainly has the talent to make ton of buckets on easy shots created by those two and AR.

Idk..Monk didn't win in Charlotte. AD didn't win much in New Orleans. It's kind of weird, that Wood gets all this hate, for not lifting Detroit and Houston out of the gutter. . Those teams were terrible, haven't been any better without him. I guess he's the fall guy, for Dallas gutting their squad in order to get Kyrie. I have to agree with 52 on that take being a bit much..
Shrug..he might not be a 1st or 2nd option on a chip contender, but I'll be damned if he's not a friggin outstanding, 5th or 6th one here!

What about the guys, that put up weak numbers on bad teams?

ugh. it isn't that wood didn't drag his teams to the playoffs (AD, kevin love, etc. did, btw). it's that his bad teams would just as soon let him walk despite his impressive numbers. more than one team, more than one coach has said..."yeah, cool 17 points, but i can get that another way that's either less expensive or less of a headache."

i'm really not sure what his supporters are suggesting at this point. he's not about to become a key contributor on a playoff team. the market has spoken several times and continues speaking. he's 28 years old.

i'll be curious to see what his waiting game is about. my guess: just the cash. he's looking for another team to pay him more rather than trying to the malik monk rehab year here or somewhere else. he should go to charlotte. he was born to go there. he can put up 20 and 10 while they finish 14th and look for his replacement.

anyway, the mistake is comparing him to guys who put up much better numbers on bad teams that weren't as bad because those guys were there. he's simply not that good. he's a me-first player in a team sport. in the 90s, he might have snagged a max deal like antoine walker, but not anymore. he's choosing among vet mins, and if he doesn't choose wisely, he'll have to learn chinese.

Meh..You are on a serious Christian Wood, hating machine, campaign I see. That shot sounds like some, borderline personal beef IMO. Nobody is looking for him to carry the team here. That's just some gray noise for me.

The level of talent, and productivity, that he brings to court, at a position of need, would be awesome for this squad. That guy would unlock all kinds of lineups, and match-up problems for opposing teams, for Darvin to work with.

Hamm benched Westbrook and started Beverley. The very idea, that he would allow Wood, to be some kind of distraction, is really some nonsense.

As far as his career opportunities outside of the Lakers.

His stats speak for themselves. He got his first shot at playing time at 24, and has exactly 4 years of rotation experience. Detroit had Drummond and Blake on that team, and he got his chance to play when Blake got hurt. He took advantage of it and blew up. The Rockets offered him a 46M contract, coming off of a 1 year minimum deal in Detroit. They just didn't know, that Harden was about to force his way to Brooklyn. Ha!

You keep trying to potray it, as teams just giving up on him. That's a false narrative, because you aren't providing any context to the situations. That's because you choose to do that, I will continue to see it in a different way.

He's in his prime...He's productive across the board in his minutes played, starting or off the bench...He can play with any lineup..He would come in, as one of our better volume 3pt shooters as a big.And he can be had presently, it seems, for cheap?

This Wood stuff isn't even a serious discussion.Hell yeah, you grab him if you can, if you're in Rob's seat. All that other stuff, is just unnecessarily hating on the dude. He can hoop, that's not hype. He's not a star, but for some reason, you continue to critique him as one. Shrug

He'd be a star in his role here.

Am not saying if we can get him for vet minimum it wouldn’t be a steal for the skills and talent no brainer that is lowest of risk with possibility of high reward. But am chuckling yet again at the Slick vs the world explanations of why things are as they are with Wood exact same as with Westbrook while ALL the GMs in the league are voting with their lack of any real monetary interest …. having gotten it ALL wrong.

everyone but slick understands why, and nobody has said they wouldn't take him at the minimum. but there are most definitely good reasons why he's choosing among minimums. and they're actually VERY similar to why westbrook was doing the same. and this may explain why slick is all over him, as LT suggested.

we'd all take russ as a vet min backup, too. but we'd all be rightly concerned about his attitude and lack of defense causing problems even at that cost.

And you just continue to be obsessed with Westbrook. The situations aren't similar at all. I don't really care about what the other GMs are thinking, I'm talking about my team and the fit.

These teams have been making moves, without the media predicting if first, for awhile now. So I have no idea who's cooking up what.I seriously doubt, that he will be signing for the minimum anywhere. but If he did here though, this would be an amazing offseason.

Welp...He going to sign somewhere, and then we'll actually find out, if it's for the minimum or not. Then we can talk about who was actually "right" or "wrong". Correct? So... on that note.. we shall see soon.
