It would. Benefit philly they'll for sure sign and trade him and possibly get a young steal

This would be basically my ideal off-season:
    Reaves for whatever it takes
Rui for 3-4 years at 15
DLo for 4 years at 18
Trade Bamba and Beasley plus the 17th pick for DeRozan
    Sign Naz Ried
    TMLE for Schroeder?

Plan for Max to be the backup SG.

    DS/Reaves/Dlo/Max in the backcourt, DeRozan/Vando for SF, Lebron/Rui PF/SF, AD/Ried at C.
Bunch of offense and defense everywhere. DeRozan adds another creator/size, Max is basically what the Lakers needed this year a guy who can hit 3's and guard multiple positions. Ried adds some decent size for a backup big, can hit open 3's, and add toughness. Solid continuity for once now.

Only thing lacking is a movement shooter type.

He's polarizing, but I'm in camp Naz. I think the only chance he had at being a Laker anytime in this contention window was at the deadline as a rental. He's getting the full mid level this summer. His agent put out there earlier this season they're looking for $10m+ this summer. I don't see a realistic path to adding him.

DeRozan is a weird fit with AD and LeBron.
Don't know why Chicago would make that deal either

If Rui isn't a weird fit, DeMar would not be either. He's a mid range scorer and a wing player who has size and strength. I am not suggesting we get him, just saying that he'd probably fit just fine.... He shoots well over 50% from mid range and his overall numbers (24/4/5) are sseriously impressive. That kind of production usually results in an all-star appearance.

Rui is a better 3 point threat. DeMar shrinks the floor. He's also ball dominant (he scores mostly from ISOs) while not being a great passer, so it's tough to see him owning the ball instead of LeBron or Reaves (or even Dennis, Dlo...). Funny you mention Rui, as DeMar coming would take minutes from him too.
AD is a better player when he attacks the paint. LeBron is a better player when he attacks the paint. So having another star who's a non-shooting threat isn't ideal.
He would definitely help in the clutch, having a guy who gets his shots easily, but I really don't like his overall fit.

I agree with the second part of your post, taking minutes from Rui and all that. However, Rui isn’t better at all at stretching the floor. They are about the same when it comes to long range shooting. Demar is a better midrange shooter and scorer in general. Also, I am surprised you mentioned passing because Derozan is a significanly better playmaker and passer than Rui. He even rebounds a bit better despite being 2 inches shorter. Again, I am not suggesting we get Demar at all and am very happy with Rui’s production. He is much younger than Demar too.
I just don’t know where this talk about stretching the floor, passing etc. is coming from. Rui isn’t very good at any of those things. He is a wing with good size and energy, who can score primarily from midrange and defend some. Basically, if Rui fits, Demar would too. It’s just that we don’t really need Demar now.

Sure, but let's look at the large sample size. He shoots just under league average from 3 for his career. Sometimes he'll shoot over 40% for stretches. Sometimes he'll struggle to hit even 30%. I want to believe he can get better and I want him on the Lakers. But "stretching the floor"? I don't think he will ever be that guy. I'd rather have him focus on his midrange scoring.

Rui is bigger, so he feels the need of a big wing. He also shoots a much higher volume of threes than DDR.

I think in our context, it's that 3 ball threat that enhances the value of Rui for us. His natural positioning this year is behind the line, only then he goes inside to make plays. But off-ball he's outside. The fact he was hitting so much 3s was what rose his value and granted him more minutes.

I agree with you they are similar (which is actually a(nother) strong argument NOT to trade for DeMar). But in our system (4 out), the fact Rui hits the three better is what makes him a good fit and DeMar a bad one. DeMar is great and it's always good to have great players, but I honestly don't see that it would be the best for us. I mean, come playoff time and are we either playing a Reaves-Lebron-DeMar-Rui-AD or one of them is out for a guard. I don't like that lineup on paper nor I think it pays off to do that move and then not have the best 5 players on court at the most needed time

I'm assuming Lebron as a screener, corner 3 guy will be a better 3 point shooter. That sounds like a stretch after his 3 point shooting in the playoffs but Lebron shoots a lot of difficult 3's and was until last year a decent 3 point shooter despite the difficulty.

Lebron as a screener (unlike guys like Vando he's amazing as the roll guy) for DeRozan with AD at the dunker spot is actually pretty amazing. Wouldn't always work against some defenses but if the playoffs have taught me anything is versatility matters.

And why Chicago?: they aren't going anywhere. They got Lonzo sunk cost, Vucecis a FA. They need a reboot IMO

Yeah Chicago may trade him, but I think they can get much better than what we have to give.

If I contacted Chicago, would be for Caruso. I would trade Beasley or Bamba and the #17 for him in a heartbeat. And they would probably accept it

If we have Caruso, we probably win against Denver. I felt we lacked a Murray stopper at times and they went away a couple of times because of that and we never got back

So uh, Jeanie……I see Pelinka needs a little help and we, uh, have an open spot to give to someone who just walked away from a team.

how about we make a move there?

No idea if this is a reputable source or not, I’m not seeing this anywhere else so probably not. I’m pretty out on any S&T scenarios with DLo but I guess I could see Miami wanting him. A DLo for Herro swap makes some sense.
