“Mystery Star” talks will be heating up by then and he will totally come in and fix everything- leading us to a Championship!
See, I can be positively delusional too!

gasol was better than mcgee that year (and actually better than mcgee was for us in the title year). lebron and AD got hurt, so people try to paint it different.

the only way we got gasol was to offer the two years with a reasonable understanding that he'd likely not play in the second year.

mcgee's got weird folk hero status around here. dallas has been actively harmed when they play him. with exception of last year in phx, he's been a big zero in advanced metrics since he left us. and even that was still not as useful as gasol was for us.

Truth, as soon as we are open, we will get one. Just that very few want to come play second fiddle to Lebron at this stage of his career. Truth is, we probably make a ton of money from Lebron. $$ speaks!! Most owners would take the money over the rings if they had a choice. Of course, most teams winning rings are making their best money. LA is a bit of an outlier. We had money from Kobe in his twilight years. When you have that kind of talent, it is not a horrible economic decision to take care of them and ride them into retirement. Other players know that is an awesome thing we do for them. Most teams don't, at the end, when your talent is waning, they dump you. We wrap you up in blankets and bright lights and let you ride off into the sunset at your own pace.

it's not that hard to get a younger star, there are always teams wanting to blow up their roster every year.

we can get a star for like 3-4 FRPs, that's what the Cavs paid for Donovan Mitchell for example.

Yes please! Three legit starters for none. Make it so. Instant season reboot! Might be the best trade scenario for Russ that I’ve heard yet.

Too bad we won’t do it because A. We won’t take on Hayward’s contract B. We have to wait on some disgruntled superstar apparently until the deadline so we can’t use Russ or the picks C. Because our front office is a bunch of idiots.

Why... we'd have the most hated player almost everywhere. Even at home. That's, uh... an achievement.

I guess I'd still want Kyrie over Hayward/Rozier. It's a small sample size but Hayward and Rozier have not been shooting it well this season and both have already been hurt.

problem isnt 1 more star can fix, the bench n few starters are nothing but yr common avg role players.....Brick is doing better of the bench but his TO avg has been as high as a starter and defense is getting worse gm over gm, honestly i think def wasnt even good 1st couple of gms in beginning, more so cause players were getting back into rythm with their shots

I don’t want Kyrie for reasons beyond basketball now, but ok, discussing it based on basketball. What does getting Kyrie solve for this team? You’re swapping out Russ for Kyrie, what are you really adding? 8 or so ppg? Better defense? No. Back in the summer rumored deals had us getting Kyrie and Harris or Curry, maybe one other player. That at least would have added some depth and helped with shooting. Russ for Kyrie straight up is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic, no thanks.

What was the last season that Kyrie had an impact on the team from start to finish?

It adds shooting. Which is important, but it's not enough, because we are really two players away from at least trying to compete. As is, we're on the level of the Rockets.

If you pretend for a second he didn't have all the off the court drama attached: you're adding a more consistent scorer, someone who's succeeded next to Bron before, and a better shooter. That would help space the floor.

BUT there's so much more to this. The guy is aloof and at the bare minimum only wants to play ball on his terms when he feels like it. He's the flakiest player in the league. He down right ignored his coach and that was a coach who was brought there because he would collaborate and be co-coaches with KD and Kyrie. Does anyone think Ham would suffer this fool for one second?

Kyrie expects to have say so in roster moves. We already have that with Bron. Don't want or need another unqualified chef in that kitchen.

Then there's the matter of an extension. Off the court b******* aside, I'm not extending him for more than the non tax payers MLE. He will f*** over whoever is foolish enough to pay him long term big bucks.

I would give up Russ and two firsts for Tobias Harris before doing Russ for Kyrie straight up.

yeah, i'm out on kyrie. i'm not even sure he's worth it at low cost despite his undeniable talent.

and it's not politics. it's that he's just not reliable and seems to be destructive. bkn started winning when they suspended him. no other change.

I would try to get a deal that includes Rozier and Washington in it. I don't really care who else is included.

Yeah, but that's when you buy though (when the cost is low). Buy low and sell high.
