    that's actually pretty interesting

However, if a team knows you aren't taking threes in the future, they would pack the paint worse than they are now, so I'm not sure we take away anything from this except we are terrible at 3's.

If we are historically bad, we can only go up from here

What's Lethal Shooter up to these days?

Sirron who isn't packing the paint on us now? You think teams are guarding our 22% 3 point shooters? Scouting reports are out on us, "let them shoot the 3 all day".

admittedly, I haven't seen enough of all 4 games to answer that accurately. If I was the opposition, that would be my game plan, but that's exactly why we are taking them. The 2's aren't available. Kind of a catch 22. Maybe I'm wrong though. It's happened before.

We need to shoot less 3's. We suck at 3's and we keep shooting them, time to quit shooting them all the time.

I'ts not that simple though. Having good three point shooting keeps defenses honest, Since we don't have good three point shooting, it messes up our inside game too.

So when RW’s contract is up this year, would we have enough cap space to get a couple of solid stars and be competitive again?

well, the wide open threes would be either shot clock violations or long twos off the dribble.

though i'd argue our conversion rate on those might be at least 35%, which beats 20% from three!

    I see.

Well, let's break it down then:
Why would the Jazz trade Mitchell, Gobert and the rest of their core to give us their '23 pick in one of the most stacked drafts? They are trading towards tanking and then give us that pick? Doesn't make any sense

So maybe the pick is heavily protected. If that's the case, we would either get a mid-first round or their '24 pick. Why would they tank to get a high-rated rookie and then not have a pick the rookie's first year, postponing in one year the build-up of their new core? Makes no sense either

Even if it's the Philly pick (a late first then), what use would we have in that pick? We wouldn't have any other picks to trade so it's kind of useless as an asset. But then, we also have no space to employ a rookie in a win-now mode that such trade would target us to

That's why I asked for the source because it doesn't seem to make sense, both for us and Utah

Tony Jones is legit. Always tough to say the real details on trade rumors. Jones doubled down on this multiple times, specifically that included a pick, so I think that is what he heard.

Waiting may cost them too much in the standings to overcome. Also, I fear that waiting may overextend LeBron or AD so much that it causes an injury. AD is already holding his back multiple times a game and running gingerly.

I think if Lamelo misses more time than expected, they opt to tank. A trade like that would be able to save the season if it came soon enough. And it might take something like the rumored Utah deal where both our picks go out but we get one back.

Even if the Hornets pivoted toward tanking, I doubt we'd get all 4 of Rozier, Hayward, Oubre and Washington. That's $70 million in incoming salary for this season, I think we'd have to send Nunn and Lonnie or Beverley out to make it work. I don't care about Nunn but I doubt the FO wants to ship out Beverley (just traded THT for him) or Lonnie (has looked pretty decent + Klutch). If I were the Hornets I'd keep Washington, he's pretty solid, only 24 and I'd be less concerned about paying him long term now that Bridges probably isn't in their future plans. If Washington isn't in the deal, I'm not sure how much I like a Hornets deal.

i hit this somewhere: utah owns the least of houston/bkn/philly in 23. guessing that was the pick offered. at the time, you had to guess that's 25 or later, which is basically a second rounder and doesn't help with the problem that we would have no ability to trade any picks until 2030.

I dont care about trading Nunn, abev, Walker. Lonnie hitting only 18% of his threes. I wouldntget too exvited abouy his 15 ppg. Russ put up 18ppg last season, didnt he? I think Lakers might consider including the 2027 and 2029 1st for Rozier/Hayward/Washington. I wouldn't be mad if they did that. Washington and even Rozier to an extent are undertated.

i wouldn't do it. also, as pincus has said and can be intuited--we don't even know if charlotte wants to tank. they probably don't.

we need to be burning up the phone lines with SA. aside from having to spend 20 million no matter what, they only have one pg on their roster. some draft compensation plus cleaning their cap for next year by taking mcdermott (who can't be in their long term plans) seems like the right move.

rob should fly to buford's house with roses.

Yup Spurs should be the main target right now. JRich and McD should not cost us too many assets.

Another team that hasn’t been brought up is Orlando. There were rumors of a Russ for Bamba/TRoss at the deadline last season. Most of their guards are injured and they are figuring out which of their young pieces are worth keeping as the season progresses. Definitely not sexy pieces but we can load up on $12-18m range contracts again.

Do we really think JRich and McDermott significantly improve the Russ-less team we saw last night? I don't think those guys are any good tbh, JRich couldn't even get on the court for the C Bags last year and McDermott is a neutral or net negative player. Sure we have some midlevel salaries but we'd likely only have the 2029 pick left, I'm not sure we're any better off in that scenario. I'd personally way rahter send two picks for Hield/Turner that one for JRich/McDermott.
