LT. The truth hurts. Performance ability is usually skewed by bad personal decisions. These things matter in analyzing all situations.

When did Dennis make all this public? What a classless move all these years later since apparently it wasn’t public knowledge?

i think several of us have been saying this. wembanyama aside, teams have bad years and look to move salary and/or tank all the time. just have to be patient and hope one of the situations works for us.

You have - but the situation is more advantageous because of the hype on this kid, which is ridiculous (IMO), but it could work to our advantage.

I'd also include Charlotte on that list.

i'd drop memphis, though, because a) i don't expect severe underperformance, and b) their salary situation is actually great. because they're young, jackson+morant (when morant's extension kicks in) make slightly more than lebron does by himself. bane doesn't come due for two more years, and everyone else is either on cheapish deals (adams and jones) or rookie deals, too.

i might add denver and phx to the list, too. chris paul is going to finally kick it one of these days, and denver has a LOT of salary locked up in 4 guys. if they're not an obvious favorite, they'll have to think about getting off some of that, imo. and people have already mentioned chicago.

I’ve also been thinking Phoenix might blow it up. That team had a really bad offseason in a number of different ways.

The main thing to me is that we need a team that isn’t Indiana, San Antonio, or Utah to emerge.

Then it falls on Rob to make a good deal. I’d think if the team is performing well we’d be more willing to take on a longer contract for a guy that helps us even if it’s a role player.

i'd love to take on long-term salary for a good-fitting role player. i feel like something like that can pop up and may even be likely.

so many variables, though, of course. nunn's a good example on our side--what if he has a great year? what do we do with that? it could interfere with any (ill-fated) cap space plan, as we have early bird but not arenas rights on him.

just too much to consider this far out. things will shape up in december, i think.

Agreed that the list of potential trade partners will expand as teams tank/have disappointing seasons, but its very rare for teams to make big changes at the deadline and then mount a long playoff run. Sixers traded Simmons for Harden last year and flamed out against the Heat. Nets traded for Harden the year prior and looked incredible before Harden and Kyrie got hurt. Raptors trading for Gasol in 2019 was big for them, that's one of the few good examples in recent years. Getting Pau in 08 is probably the best one ever in terms of transforming a team at the deadline and having immediate playoff success, the Rockets actually won in 95 when they traded for Drexler but they were already the defending champs.

Basically, there will be more trade targets but its really hard to change your team in the middle of the season like that and have enough time to gel if you're actually trying to win the championship.

Yeah. This was part of the disappointment of not being able to move Russ over the summer.

But that ship has sailed. Gotta hope for the best with the current roster as I still think pulling off a deal is a long shot.

On the bright side, Ham looks like the real deal and the team has improved. Just need those things to translate into the win column. If AD plays like he did last night then we should be competitive this season.

i'm not even really thinking of contending this year. i'm thinking of getting off russ in a way that improves the team without having to go the FA route. and maybe that ends up being the best way, but i'd be turning over every stone until february.

this has to be some sort of g-league contract trickery, right? feel like it's easier to convert to g-league if they were in camp or something? maybe i'm misremembering.

Yeah. I’m wondering what the angle is here.

Maybe just want to give these guys a legit look on the floor with the team?

    https://2ways10days.com/nba-two-way-contracts-faq-70d1c9cbbe9

this is old, but it had this sentence:

so i think that these recent guys are guys we want on the g-league team, and this makes it so that they're officially there. why not just sign directly? don't know.

    edit:

    maybe this is it?
