I won't shy away my friend but I appreciate your post. I'm here, based off a podcast I listen to in my spare time, to express my thoughts and opinions. I'm a realist. The guy shot <20% from 3. He's a 29 year old unicorn playing for the Lakers. This is the year he puts up an MVP type season and leads the team or it's time to look elsewhere.

Honestly - screw Indiana. They're NOT negotiating in good faith at all.

The asking price for Hield/Turner around the league would NOT be 2 unprotected first round picks...and NOBODY is going to offer that for those players especially when Hield is a one trick pony and Turner is on an expiring deal (meaning you could forfeit an asset and still lose him next summer).

I think we're making the right non-move here by not succumbing to the deal which is clearly unfair given that Hield/Turner market is pretty dry. There's no way the owner wants to see Halliburton/Hield/Turner core lol. They're bluffing.

I think there's a better deal out there and we shouldn't blow it on Turner/Hield when we seem to have a solid frontcourt with Jones/Bryant and we really need a WING, not an undersized two guard that can't play defense, in any Westbrook deal. We should be targeting a wing imo...we have 3 other guards that are all capable of starting at PG.

Let's see if this new "bought in" Westbrook + health of LeBron/AD is actually going to pay off or not...we'll get a better deal closer to the deadline.

I should rephrase - giving up 2 unprotected FRP's for Hield/Turner is not something we should entertain...but if it was just one PROTECTED pick plus Westbrook for Hield/Turner and they give a 2nd round pick in return...I'm interested at that price. 2 unprotected picks is ridiclous.

I’d do the deal for one unprotected pick. I think it would round out our roster very well plus we’d get rid of Russ now and have more time to gel. But it’s not happening. So hopefully they come down later in their ask or something else comes up near the deadline. Or I guess we hope Russ buys in and we play a lot better than we are anticipating. The fact that Nunn is actually back from the sound of it at least makes me feel a little more confident in our back court.

very interesting read. i'd wager rob may be the actual source here, tbh (particularly with the mention of the russ trade not being standard organizational protocol). trying to make sure fans understand how things went down so the silly stories can't get out of control. good lens for viewing all of the other rumors that came out and will follow.

sounds like we were willing to do a 1st/2nd/russ for hield/turner, and that's it. i get it, and i'm not even sure that's not an overpay in itself. indy can't get anything back for hield and is trying to move him if possible. that means he's a negative asset right now. does that change if a contender has a shooter go down? maybe, but it's a gamble for them. as is turner's health AND his impending FA. if i were indy, i wouldn't want to mess with it. if he balls out, he's probably gone or you're maxing a non-max guy with a troubling injury history. if he gets hurt again, he's probably walking for nothing at all.

encouraged to hear that we don't think we're getting kyrie in the summer.

we're betting on russ playing better this year, having better health, and being in a position of negotiating strength as the season goes on. and that's what i'd do, too.

I’m not sure how you got that from the article. To me the article is a spin from the lakers on what happened in our off-season: “we tried to get a good package but couldn’t, but don’t worry, Westbrook is doing much better underneath Ham so far, and if he isn’t we’ll look for our trades.”

I'd send two unprotected picks for the Indiana deal but I completely understand why others wouldn't. The part about Herb Simon wanting to see Haliburton with Hield and Turner is funny, they'll win a few more games than the true tanking teams and realize they're not doing themselves any favors. I think we start the season off fairly strong, staying above .500, and we ultimately make a Russ trade before the deadline.

Rob is absolutely the source of that. Perfectly timed article lol, just silly. Screw Indy, ridiculous ask, but the whole sunk cost part is also silly, Rob needs to get past that already, those players are gone, and Caruso should have been signed regardless. The Heat gave Herro 32 mil, we could have given Caruso 10.

again, assuming rob's the source, i think the caruso part is also telling: he was told they couldn't sign him at that price.

I don’t think I’m the only one who read it the that way. I can see in the Russ thread that abeer, pika and weezy did as well.

So maybe you’re the one who believes in the tooth fairy…

    Yep.

And until we make a significant adjustment with this rosters, it's likely a 6th seed at best.

It's just a matter of Rob trying to wait out and see if Indiana lowers their ask, how both teams start the season, etc.

    We shall see...

Which 5 teams do you have ranked higher than the Lakers? TBH I thought the West was fairly average last season due to all the injuries. The teams that fared the best were the ones mostly injury free.

Glad to hear that Joey and Jesse are getting some pull in the larger FO decisions.
Good on Rob for asking Indy to include some Seconds back. I’ve been hard on him, for good reason, but him not caving to Indy’s ridiculous demands earns some respect.

I'll put the Warriors and Mavs up there simply because they went to the Conference Finals. Other than that, I don't consider any team to have a better duo than James and Davis.
