Yup, I know a lot of you guys have been preaching this for a while … I think it just didn’t hit me until now when keeping the picks is sounding more and more like the only option we have, so might as well take solace in it lol.

On your side note, I still think the Schröder trade made sense and was fair for us to give up the pick. The Thunder were starting to gear towards rebuild, so just Danny Green and a second rounder wasn’t going to move the needle for them in exchange for the runner up to sixth man of the year. The pick was THE asset that OKC wanted and in fact I think when the news first broke Green wasn’t even mentioned. The pick we gave up was so late in the first round that it was pretty much a second rounder anyways. That trade was widely seen as a steal for us.

But giving up a first in the Westbrook trade? Absolutely egregious. We should have RECEIVED more draft compensation from Washington, not the other way around.

 

so i've had a few hours to process, and i have questions re: the knicks. did they just not want mitchell that much? because imo, this package is maybe less than the whatever was being rumored (6 picks!!11).

anyway, i'll be curious to hear the spin coming from all sides. it's weird to me that the knicks blew 25 per on brunson, extended barrett at even more, and then were like...mitchell's not worth obi toppin and picks.

and i'm not sure i buy that utah was even that interested in sexton or markannen. they could have signed sexton to that offer sheet and had him for free, imo. cleveland clearly didn't want him.

just seems weird to me for almost all parties (i actually liked what cleveland was doing with the three bigs, though i can see why a star would appeal to them).

 

i feel like this is pushback against everyone asking for two unprotected picks basically just to spite us. i mean, it's never taken that to move an expiring contract unless you're getting something good in return.

i think we went back to indy saying we'd give them the picks, and they upped the ask again. if that's the game, i guess we're screwed. but some of these teams will regret it, imo.

Rumors are flying but it sounds like the Knicks offered Barrett and multiple picks but Ainge just kept trying to get more.

 

That’s my guess as well. Once our other options started drying up, the Pacers upped the price. Especially since they likely didn’t want to deal with us anyway.

The Knicks original deal is better than what the Jazz ended up with from the Cavs.

RJ Barrett is a really nice young player, he’s better than Sexton. You add in Robinson who’s a solid starting caliber center, another young prospect in Toppin… and also consider the fact that the Knicks still probably wouldn’t have been very good so their picks down the road would be worth more.

Cleveland’s going to be a playoff team for the next 3-5 years in the East, so those picks wont be lottery picks.

At least I hope this is the case and we all LOL at Ainge for not taking the Knicks deal years from now. The Knicks might luck out and fall a** backwards into the next superstar with one of those picks.
