Yeah didn’t mean to doubt Jovan’s credentials, moreso annoyed with how social media misaggregates his speculation as actual scoops. Often even when he prefaced what he’s saying as not being an actual report. (Ended up watching the podcast and Jovan clarified that if it’s not coming from his official Twitter or part of a story on The Athletic, it’s not an actual report)

On the Nets pick situation, yeah abeer got what Jovan was getting at which I had overlooked. The point is that it’s Houston who has the swap rights with Brooklyn. So even if the Nets try to tank… they’re unlikely to out tank Houston. The Rockets are likely going to have a high lottery pick. Worst case scenario if the Nets tank their way to having a slightly better pick than Houston, they’d still end up with a good pick after the swap.

But yeah, I still don’t think the Nets end up in position where it’s reasonable to tank. I’m kinda just assuming they end up taking the Boston package for KD, in which case they’re just too good to tank. So I don’t think Brooklyn would do a Kyrie trade to tank, but I do agree with the point JSM made earlier that they potentially are good enough to the point that they can dump Kyrie for future picks and still be competitive.

or, again, kyrie moves in a 3-team deal where the third team gets the cap relief/future picks and bkn gets the useful players. again, if it's true that turner and hield could be had for russ and our two picks, why not have turner and hield got to bkn, harris (or curry) and kyrie to us, and russ/2 picks to indy? maybe mcconnell goes to bkn in the deal, too, so they have a credible pg aside from mills.

though i do still see your point that kyrie actually fits the post-kd trade roster very well. i just don't think that relationship is likely to be salvaged. put it this way: if it can be salvaged, so can ours with russ.

I think this is fair, but I'm not worried about opening the door to other players. Bill Russell was such a giant and left such an enormous, incomparable legacy, that it would almost be embarrassing to suggest this honor should be bestowed on anyone else. Nobody even comes close to Russell in terms of combined career accomplishments and impact off the court.

eh, then you wade into the GOAT arguments...which is...a lot.

anyway, why'd they do it AFTER he died? it's not like his legacy just became greater. and he doesn't even get to enjoy the honor!

Couple new items from Dan Woike's newsletter

    On the picks...
And there might be other options than the ones we've heard about...

Damn, camp invite? Not even a guaranteed spot on one of the worst teams in the league?

In order to not be one of the worst teams in the NBA, it's best you don't pick up players that can't play.

Are those quotes specifically in the context of a Westbrook trade? I.e, we may have more options on a possible Russ trade then the few we’ve heard rumored?

Or is it just saying we have more options in general? I.e, maybe some THT + Nunn trade packages?

I hope the former, because if this is just referring to something like THT for Beverly as one of our backup options, that would be incredibly deflating

Unclear. From the framing of the newsletter and the mention of players that have been discussed (Kyrie and the Indy deal), it sounds like he's talking about a Russ trade. Or maybe that's all his source gave him. The Rob "we have a plan" line.

I'm really curious as to what else is out there, there's only so many ways and so many places you can balance that kind of salary. I think we've all combed through every roster and every scenario by now. Nearly all of them have been discussed by the media even if not in the official rumor capacity.

wcs has played himself out of the league. when he wants to go, he can be useful player, but you can't teach people to want this kind of thing, in my experience.

in fact, one of the few things i've learned in life is that trying to make people want things is not worth the effort most of the time.

find out what people want and try to align it with what you want.

    this doesn't help with wcs.

The thought that we’ve got other options but are still waiting on Kyrie annoys me. We know the price tag for Kyrie. If we think it’s too high based on his history, I’m good with that. But let’s move on and get the team set before training camp instead of waiting to see if the Nets come around.

No, nothing can salvage our relationship with Russ. Well, replacing his brain with someone else’s might.

are we sure we're waiting on him, though? we fans think so, but i'm not sure that's true. i think we've just been priced out of every scenario, tbh. we're waiting for any of our partners to lower their asking price, imo. may not happen until the deadline. or never.
