Cowherd literally knows not one thing about NBA basketball. Not one thing.

Quite honestly nothing would surprise me with that guy.

seems like he's just dramatically overreacting to unsubstantiated rumor? i mean, if they keep playing hardball with durant, there's a chance the whole crew is there in october. and there's a chance things sort of work themselves out after that, too.

and i only partially agree with his framing. i don't think bkn wanted "attention" (that's what cowherd wants, ironically). they wanted a quick route to contention after initially trying the slow build. they got impatient, forgot about culture building (marks should have known from SA), and now they're here.

    Latest from Stein
Hopefully it's to NY because that will open up two avenues for us to explore for Russ. Maybe even a 3 teamer.

    Something like...
We trade: Russ, THT, Nunn, Gabriel
We get: Conley, JC, Gay, Fournier, Cam

Utah trades: Mitchell, Conley, Gay, JC
Utah gets: Toppin, Quickley, Grimes, Russ, Nunn, Gabriel

NY trades: Toppin, Quickley, Grimes, Fournier, Cam
    NY gets: Mitchell, THT

The key in all this is pick compensation. I think we have to give the Jazz one (Ainge tax), that gives the Knicks a little help in how many they have to include. 5 from them and one for us going to Utah. We're helping the Knicks get off Fournier's deal (likely counter to their initial ask of us -- take Randle) but they'll want something for Cam to recoup their investment in him. I think two seconds going to the Knicks should do it on our end.

We get Conley, who I like next to Bron as well. JC can serve as the Monk role + a PG on a Bron team. Get a shooter in Fournier and a couple big wings in Gay and Cam.

NUNN is our best shooter not named Swider, and our only other playmaking scorer other than lebron….
I’m not sure why people want to trade this man :/

Are you sure? The next shot he makes as a Laker will be his first. Reasons are broken down and discussed in the Nunn thread. He's a salary for us to trade until shown otherwise.

i'd honestly prefer dealing directly with utah for conley/bogdanovic or conley/jc/gay or conley/beverly/gay. we'd just be moving russ/gabriel and the same draft capital (a 1st and 2nds or something, depending on who's coming back).

maybe i'm foolish, but i'd like to see what nunn and THT look like in healthy seasons before eating fournier for them.

but i see why you'd try to piggyback on the knicks deal.

maybe the only way to make salaries work here? i'm not eager to move him unless we know he can't go, in which case i obviously don't care.

Definitely not against a straight up deal with Utah. But would prefer a 3 team before dealing with just NY.

My concern with Nunn is the unknown. I hope the team knows more than we do about his status. But as was discussed in his thread, the fact that Rob hasn't bragged about his return for this upcoming season leaves me uneasy. Then with THT, the minute we signed Walker, I figured we're moving on from THT. How many redundant players are we trying to roster? Neither can shoot or defend. You can't play both the minutes that you have to give them when factoring in their salaries.

Latest from Jake Fischer on his chat today: thinks Kyrie and Russ stay put.

Hypothetically, Russ could move in a salary dump. Indy will be rumored until the situation is resolved. Eric Gordon is another one we've showed interest in (as previously reported) . Utah makes sense IF Mitchell moves. Thinks it'll take two firsts if we're dumping Russ.

It's just hard for me to see Utah dealing with us. Ainge being there makes it even tougher. Maybe DWade has more influence than I would think.

I'm not against two firsts for the right deal. Shouldn't just be to give up Russ.

This. He can fail the physical but he should be forced to do that.

I don't like the Utah package or NY package personally.

If Irving doesn't happen, I'm leaning toward Russ just coming back.

Idk. Maybe I can be talked into it.

Are there different scenarios besides Conley?

you mean with utah? several, i guess, but conley's the biggest salary and least sensible fit there if they're tanking/rebuilding. if he played like last year, he'd be a giant upgrade on russ in basically every way, on and off the court. i'd give a protected 1st for him. he's partially guaranteed year after next, so if he falls apart (he is old), it's not a huge killer.

not many teams are in the market for a vet starting pg, and very few could afford to pay 25 million for a backup pg. and conley can't want to finish his career as the lone veteran on an actively bad utah team. i feel like this is a chance for us.

if he came with bogdanovic, even better! but i'd take clarkson or beverly plus gay, too. those are pretty much the options, though (some combination of those guys, one of whom probably must be conley or bogdanovic).

btw, for those of us that were hoping to pluck kenrich williams from okc, they signed him to a 4-year 27 million dollar deal. further demonstrating that young defensive wings of appropriate size simply are not available for the cash we have/had.
