We have to also consider the Net's perspective on this.

What's the Nets worse case scenerio? They would enter the season with KD and Kyrie, where they might not even show up to play. Kyrie will ultimately get a buyout and he will come sign with the Lakers for the minimum while we still have Westbrook on the roster, where he'll end up as a huge trade chip as a expiring on the deadline. The longer the Nets hold, the more likely their "worse case scenerio" can happen.

So if thats the Nets worse case scenerio and the Lakers are their only partner out of this, they will absolutely make the deal. Would they rather pay Kyrie $34 million to go away and get nothing out of it, or get something from the Lakers? Whether its a pick swap, 2nd rounder, shedding salary they don't want, etc.

They know this and have basically nothing to lose at this point. They know the Lakers will give them something, what they get completely depends on what they do at this very moment. They want to play chicken with Rob to see if he blinks first and gives them as much as possible, because they have nothing to lose anyway.

What Rob has to do, and all signs is he's absolutely doing it..... is to have buddhist monk-like patience and not blink. The closer we get to training camp/start of season, the less he will have to give up.

He won't finish the contract in Washington. Book it.

Oh he’s setting himself up to ask for a trade in a year or two and be able to pick his destination.

The one thing that keeps me mind-boggled is the perception on the trade demand by KD.

So I am just going to ask this question and would appreciate as many responses back as possible:

Q: Ultimately, what was the breaking point that led Kevin Durant to ask to be traded? (Remembering also that he did it hours after Kyrie Irving opted into his 36.9 million player option

    Is it:

A: Like most are saying in the media (but they confusingly guard themselves from saying that Irving would have to be off the team in order for him to return????) that he got tired of the mess in Brooklyn, particularly Irving's antics

    or

B: Because the Nets did not give his buddy the 4-year extension (which led to Irving spewing his desire to play in LA next season, etc and ???coincidentally??? Durant demanding the trade once Kyrie gave up waiting on the extension and signed his opt-in (even using the rumored threat of signing for the MLE)

This matters and yet it is an endless shielding of actual truths here and opinions that when elaborated on make little to no sense.....

The reason I ask this because the argument that Durant would consider coming back.....why is it automatically said "with Irving in the fold"..????

Anyone else confused as much as I am????

Nets worst case isn’t buying out Kyrie. I don’t believe they have any intention of doing that, I mean why would they? You basically pay Kyrie his 30m and let him go where he wants - stuff that! You’d rather just let him chill at home for a year out of spite.

The Net’s worst case is they retain KD and Kyrie and both of them don’t show up to camp and stay home. That’s a real PR disaster with the whole NBA watching how you handle that. But I think there is a small possibility it happens.

I think Nunn is more ideal to keep than THT? Lakers need a back up Kyrie in case injured which is a high probability. I'm not a huge fan of THT. I think he is more expendable than Nun and especially Reaves.

I hate Pat Beverly, but I’d sign him for this team. He’s the perfect vet for this young team, exactly what the young guys would need, would bring what he did to the youth in Minny. If you get Kyrie and THT or Nunn goes out, you really couldn’t do better for a backup PG.

    B. Durant’s not in Brooklyn to begin with without Kyrie. I understand Brooklyn’s concerns but I get the feeling they lead KD to believe they were running it back and then decided not to. That’s the only reason I think they are going along with the trade demand

Agreed on this. That’s really the only reason why KD would be upset. He was under the impression they are going to take care of Kyrie and they get to play together for the duration of his contract.

The Nets don’t want to do that anymore, so neither do KD or Kyrie lol

1000%. Get the bag, contend later. Money over rings for 99% of the league... unless you're one of the driven ones.
