i think the odds of that happening are similar to the odds that a new coach and system help russ be better than last year. both possible, neither probable.

I don't think this is as much on Rob as it's on the Nets not finding a suitor for KD.

I feel like the Nets have gone past the point of no return on the current version of their team but are still trying to use the threat of running it back to negotiate.

That's not what Mr. Rambis posted. If I read his post accurately, he is claiming the Nets this morning asked for some additional draft compensation from any third team Rob would involve in the trade. He said there was a framework agreed upon before today, not necessarily a specific third team already included. TIFWIW

That's possible. But why would BKN furnish us with any list when apparently they've been "tough in negotiations so far?". They play nice and say, "Hey, Rob here's a list of third teams we've done due diligence with and assets we have that we're interested in; call those teams and if you find something viable, please call us back and we'll discuss it". Sounds a bit far fetched too me, but whatever.

And there's pressure coming from the top. When Marc Stein is reporting, "LBJ is rooting for this to happen," that means he's behind the scenes putting pressure on the FO to make this deal come to fruition

no way we can contend without the Irving trade. I'd bet my house on it. Even with the Irving trade we won't be favorites because the rest of the roster outside the Big 3 blows.

and the worst thing you can do to your team in the NBA is being average.

also I'm betting Lebron won't stick around for another year if we blow the Irving trade and we're not competitive this year.

I was going to say, if a team keeps breaking their promise of the framework of a deal and keeps upping the ante. They are not serious about making a deal, it what happened with that idiot demps years ago. Lakers should move on put their the focus somewhere else. Let's hope this isn't the case.

The defense would be nowhere near championship quality, possibly bottom 10 in the league.

not a specific list of names. a list of the kinds of things they want (young wing, young big, 2 1sts); we think we have it and they're like "not like that..."

Apologies for being unclear, but yes this is exactly what I meant.

Things are a little messy, but the easiest way to read all of this is that LAL is trying very hard to not get the short end of the stick here, even going so far as to externally convey that sentiment to others (e.g. willing to keep Westbrook, Pacers backup plan, etc). This is because the rest of the league believes there's significant desperation on LAL's side to get rid of Westbrook, especially with LBJ's last year upcoming, and are swimming around the boat like sharks waiting to take advantage.

What's our roster as it stands now, people actually signed to play in 22-23? Do we really only have 2 slots left like I read somewhere? Doesn't sound right.

they are in no rush in making a deal for Kyrie. Their priority is to deal KD.

yeah, if i were rob, i'd just plainly state this and say that i feel forced to just open the season with russ and prove to people that we're willing to do this so that everyone will stop trying to fleece me.

I don't think the management at Brooklyn is going to make it that convenient for us, but that's just me.

Especially in July. They'll wait this out and continue to try to drum up leverage through media reports and pray for a miracle another team emerges, which I doubt.
