If Kyrie comes, Russ will be gone.

Let Rob and others figure that out that know the CBA better than us.

yeah, i think the only way it works is if there's a sort of handshake deal that we'll have space next summer, so unless russ is traded for other expirings...

....definitely not a situation we should be giving up picks to help them out of.

I keep reading these reports from people like Woj and Stein discussing the MLE idea, and expecting them to throw cold water on it.

Something like “In numerous corners of the NBA throughout the weekend, increasing credence was being applied to the idea that Irving is legitimately prepared to accept a pay cut next season of roughly $30 million to reunite with LeBron James and join the Los Angeles Lakers … but sources indicate this is highly unlikely and more of a leverage ploy on Irving’s part

But that last part never pops up… they seem to be reporting it as a real possibility!

right. the leaks coming out of brooklyn are face-savers, imo. "these guys killed our culture. it's our decision to move on."

no. you gambled on some mercurial dudes, and things went south. i was really surprised when marks (SA-raised exec) went in with kd and kyrie instead building another way. this is what happens.

and yes, btw, we would be signing up for similar should kyrie land here.

We are all going down the rabbit hole anyway with this Kyrie stuff..I might as well play along.
The CBA isn't all that complicated, the money has to be available period. Taking on longterm money will limit the money available to resign Irving. It's match the 47 million expiring by some means. One guy (Wall), or multiple ones with expiring deals and team options.

On the court, all we'd be practically doing really is replacing Avery with Kyrie. The drama and the hype would be unreal. Talk about the Last Dance, there would be folks lining up to bid millions for the right to do a documentary on that season! Lol..and if it all worked out, we'd be destroyed in the media for stacking the team!

I think Brooklyn's owner shared some choice unfiltered words with Kyrie recently. It doesn't seem like Kyrie took them well LOL.

while i certainly agree that they know the cba better than i do, i don't think slick's and my interpretation are wrong here. there's no arcane cap gymnastics around it.

now, if lebron is willing to give up a bunch of cash (for one year, just like kyrie would be...), then maybe you can move russ for mostly expirings and maybe a little long-term salary (like 20 million max). then lebron signs for mini mle level money next year, and is made whole after that.

funny thing is that the mavs did this stuff with dirk near the end of his career, using his bird rights to drop and then raise his salary as it suited their needs, and nobody cared. but i bet if we do this, the next cba won't allow it.

if we're really interested in wall, and irving signs for the mini-mle, we should trade russ and 2 2nds for wall and let houston cut russ and we just pay wall his money. if it goes well, he can be part of the bird-rights pyramid scheme i outlined above.

and yes, in theory, we could simply play kyrie/russ/lebron/AD/(hopefully a good ring-chasing vet) and try to outscore people. i don't love it.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that if Kyrie is going to take this $30 million dollar leap of faith, there's stuff going on behind the scenes of the sacrifice it would take.

Also, wouldn't help if LBJ had a little influence with Nike and could put a word in to the Nike executives to help aid Kyrie getting his next Nike deal/bag.

Reportedly, they were a little reluctant, maybe LBJ can work his magic.

    :).

Over the weekend there was smoke about Kyrie coming here but its almost a forest fire now. I just hope that we don’t do anything stupid in the process.
