this is all pretty nuts, but honestly apart from Rob pulling this off, I can't see how this team would be contending next year.

this Kyrie thing seems like our lifeline.

only if they think he won't just walk. i think they have to consider it a credible threat, which gives him a ton of leverage, imo. if they think calling this guy's bluff is a good idea, they've got another thing coming.

my favorite here is that houston had talks on draft night about wall. meaning teams are interested in that contract. which means teams are interested in russ's contract. something the media conveniently ignores at every turn.

nope. we could re-sign him at like a 20% increase over the mini-mle. that's it.

now, if he and lebron made a handshake agreement to split up the pot in 2023, he could make a lot of money on the back end. and if bkn's only offering two guaranteed years, but say, someone in kyrie's ear says that if this year goes well, he'll get a 4-year offer the following year, maybe he considers.

again, i don't want any of this. i want to move russ for role players and go back after it with the two-star approach.

but this situation is more real than the press wants to believe right now.

I don’t see the Nets caving and offering Kyrie a long term extension.

I don’t see Kyrie caving and opting in to play out the year with Brooklyn after feeling disrespected. Even at the expense of $30 million.

Sign and trade options don’t seem to exist, as the other teams on Kyrie’s list don’t seem to want him and/or don’t want to hardcap themselves.

Really starting to feel like we’re going to get Kyrie, and we should know within the next few days. I’m starting to think Kyrie taking TPMLE is a real possibility.

lol, what i (and sk) just said. the issue is that bkn isn't offering a long-term, guaranteed deal. so he could look at it as taking a financial hit for one season to secure the longer-term salary next year. and he's made a ton of money already, so he can afford the risk. i mean, this isn't a schroder situation. he actually gambled far more, imo.

i don't see why bkn didn't just give kyrie the contract offer. i mean, you guys knew he was nuts when you recruited and then signed him. he's not going to let you control him with a short-term, incentive-laden deal. i'm sure he views it as an insult. either pay up or get ready to move durant.

I've never heard of a more cancerous expiring contract than how the national media sees Russ' and why? Laker reasons? It's wild.

i think it's real. and i think bkn should strongly consider taking russ and a protected 1st as opposed to kyrie just walking. or, as others said, re-routing russ for something they'd prefer.

but again--the kd issue is also huge there.

yeah, and nobody questions it. like, when you write about teams talking wall, and then turn around and say nobody will touch westbrook, do you just...turn your brain off for those moments? at least address it--why wall and not westbrook? most teams are probably cutting either. and if they weren't, westbrook is actually the safer bet on the court. it's just dumb.

i have no idea how to decipher that. i just think the nets need to be more careful than it seems they have been.

want everyone to remember this is what the internet is doing, just in case we have another pau situation where everyone screams something unfair happened when it was clear nobody was stepping into the void.

If I had to guess, it's not so much about Russ as it is about wasting another year of Lebron. Yes, it's a large expiring. But we know it isn't going to work if he's back, and that wastes what precious years we have left with an elite Lebron. So it's less about Russ and more about Lebron's time being wasted.

but why does this matter to other teams? because they think they have more leverage? that's dumb/greedy, and can get you burned. if you wanted to move something for wall, you should want to move the same exact thing for russ.

so while our motivation is greater than houston's (for many reasons), our partners' motivation shouldn't be affected.

Anything could work with a healthy and engaged Lebron and AD. Kyrie, Westbrook, a bunch of role players ANYTHING. We already know this from the Chip season. That roster was panned by most of the "experts " before that season started.

How much is Lebron’s cap hold? Would it be possible to clear enough salary to give Kyrie a max next year and resign Lebron with his Bird rights?
