I think we are trading Rondo to open a roster spot, likely SJ, Trevor Lane said it would cost the Lakers about twenty million to replace a waived minimum player and save ten million by freeing one roster spot thru trades.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see DJ still get cut or moved.

At first I thought the same thing, but when you consider the array of big guys that Cleveland has to work with, it makes some sense on both sides of the court. Rondo gets bigs to both pick 'n pop or roll with, and they can also limit him as a defensive liability with rim protection.

I do hope they take some time to expand this to be more than a salary dump. Two weeks ago I had to really think about a hypothetical THT + Nunn for Jerami Grant swap, but at this point I'd do it. I think THT is being improperly used and still a lot better than what we're seeing, but I think a lot of basketball fans (myself included), tend to fall in love with "potential." If you told me that THT's peak is 22/4/3, I'd say that's pretty awesome for a late 2nd round pick. I know Grant is the lead guy on a terrible team, but as the 4th option on this Lakers team, I would expect his efficiency to significantly increase and his defensive rating to go up.

For me, it's a Jerami Grant or better to include THT in a trade. We don't have many non-star, above minimum contracts to work with so don't waste it on mediocrity.

A 1.7 million TPE could come in handy. Dean Wade is young 25, he's 6'9, shoots a decent percentage from 3 34% On a cheap contract at 1.78 million. It's not some sexy trade, but Rondo is old.

5.7 pts 3.5 rebs and 1.3 assists. A fair exchange is not a swindle, they need a guard, we could use a big .

The problem is that Grant makes 20 million dollars. Tucker and Nunn add up to 14.5 million. With the luxury tax situation, every dollar spent is close to 4 dollars in tax. That means we trade those two, and eat another 20 million in bringing in Grant. I'm sure we'd love to dump Jordan into a deal, but why would they want Jordan? It would probably cost a future 1st rd pick and Reaves. That's a steep price IMO.

Yeah in a vacuum I don't necessarily think Grant is worth the 1st, but I think he fills a very specific need and would fit in well. It may not be enough to avoid a 1st or 2nd round exit, but I think it's worth the shot. I still really like THT, but I'm not sold on this current team pulling it together and if Grant isn't a great fit, he's a nice expiring contract next season.

    Reaves? No way. Deals off.

I mean, if we could get a 2nd round pick, that would help a little with our depleted draft assets. Cleveland owns the Rockets and Spurs 2nd round picks in the 2022 draft, which are projected to be in the low thirties. If we could get one of those for Rondo, that wouldn't be too bad. Of those three players mentioned, the only one that makes sense is Powell. Yeah, he is another smallish guard, but he shoots the lights out and has a decent contract. I guess I would see if Portland would want THT and Nunn.

It would be a miracle if Cleveland took Jordan in a trade. However...they are Cleveland.

cleveland needs another PG with rubio gone. and rondo is a perfect fit for a young team that is looking to make the playoffs

rondo probably figures he might as well get playing time on a team trending up rather than basically coach a lousy one. i'm thinking the only reason he was even brought back was because of lebron

We could have used these cash savings to eat the salary tax on Caruso contract this year but nooooooo, we are cheap.
