I thought that second to last play involving Trae was marginal, he did hook the defensive player but it seemed that it was in the course of the play, vs the one with Harden where he initiated it out of thin air.

technically, giannis hand-checked harden, but yeah, it's junk anyway.

feel like i've seen a lot more egregious examples of all those calls than the ones provided.

And nothing in the new rules addresses Harden dribbling directly into a backpedaling defender, or a player just standing there. 75% of his calls are him initiating contact with players who are not fouling him.

it's funny because they're not actually "new rules" really, right? most of it is just properly calling old rules. one of the worst things that happened to basketball was the glorification of the stationary taken charge (or, the battier). on one hand, i get it: reward great defensive positioning! but the problem is that the rules never stated you needed that level of positioning (stationary, shoulders perfectly squared)--you needed legal guarding position.

    https://official.nba.com/the-nba-rule-authority/

back peddling, sliding at backward angle, and even sliding at a sideways angle can all be legal guarding position if you get to the spot first.

and running alongside a defender and lurching into them has always been a clear offensive foul that just stopped being one cuz harden.

That kind of play makes me fume—like that Steph example. I’m still skeptical of all this, but we’ll see.

Just thought about something: Chaundee Brown might be the future small forward of the Los Angeles Lakers. This could happen as soon as this season. He hasn't played a single second yet, but we will see what happens.

I don't know any ignorant sexist jokes, I mean I have head a few non-ignorant ones but they are still nasty.

All I care about is whether she can coach. Never heard of her, but I would expect she can. I wonder what her specific role on the staff is going to be?

Now, I’m back to loving Byron, the only ex-Laker I don’t like is Kupcrap, for the malicious signings of Dung/Moscrap

i think kupchak was backed into a corner. it was clear that no good FAs would sign with us, and it wasn't in our best interest to be absolutely terrible forever. so he sort of operated like a non-glamor franchise. and i think the spirit was correct (let's pick realistic targets and get them), but the execution (let's overpay dramatically in terms of both years and salary to do so) was just terrible.

had he given those two two-year contracts at that salary? ok. 4 year contracts at half the salary? also fine.

remember: tons of awful contracts were handed out that summer all across the league.
