Two things came to mind watching this.

Firstly, IT is a bad man. He did this in the NBA - at that size - and was top 5 in MVP voting. F the C Bags for doing him so dirty and I still feel bad for him. He put his body and heart on the line for the team, and Ainge the did him like that. Players don't forget that kind of stuff and I hope they don't anytime soon.

Secondly, Kobe scored 81, not in an amateur gym, but in the best league in the world - it still blows my mind.

Oubre is a decent starting calibre player. He's better than Bazemore and Ariza and for the minimum it's a no brainer.

i referenced this specifically in another thread recently, i think--when people were talking about how we can't repeat the "mistake" of paying kobe. i'd argue we got another title before boston because of that "mistake". ainge really thought potential C Bags weren't watching when he treated thomas that way? or he thought none of them were smart enough to consider the possibility that it could be them next time?

you think so? i'm not sure. feel like he hasn't shown consistent effort on defense or much of a hoop iq, and he's never been a three point threat.

i suppose if you're a bad team who is hoping for a spark, you sign him. but for the roles we have open? i'm not sure ariza/bazemore aren't more appropriate.

some of my concerns regarding oubre could probably be echoed for monk. but oubre's had even longer in the league to stop being a net negative, and he hasn't done it.

I totally agree with you. I made the initial comment that started that back and forth when I said the Lakers would never trade Russ during his first year because they've spent a lot of time showing the league they treat their players well and things like Kobe's contract prove that.

I'm pretty sure that's why AD didn't want to go there. AD's father destroyed the C Bags for what they did to IT. Thomas seems to be a really well liked player in the league and I'm sure players talk.

Look, I've honestly oversold him. He has all the tools, but he just can't seem to put it together. And my oh my his shooting for GSW to start the season last year was atrocious. He isn't anything special - but he can be a decent piece, he has good size and he can start. Like every other player in the league, if he can improve his 3&D a little (or a lot), he'd be earning a tonne more.

i think part of his problem (from my limited perspective) is that he doesn't understand that his destined role is 3 and d. he thinks he's a star. sort of the same gripe people had about kuz here--though i feel like kuz bought more into his role here than oubre has elsewhere.

one could argue oubre's never played on a winning team, though, so maybe every team he's had has wanted the same thing as him (him to become a star).

Being that IT got hurt and it wasn't known exactly how his condition was gonna play out moving forward how should Ainge or any other league exec have handled it? You're not saying they should have still backed the brinks truck up to ITs house right? I mean it seems worse on the outside looking in but it's business and sometimes that can be an awful pill to swallow. I hate that it happened to Isaiah, his injury in his contract year etc but its happened to a lot of guys just the same like Cousins.

They could have handled it better, with more finess for sure

We might have offered him our MLE before we gave it to Nunn.

the Lakers, Bucks, Nets, Warriors and Clippers all offered me 10M a year but I wanted more and instead opted for McDonalds. They told me that I would only have to work the cash register for two years before I would have a chance at shift manager!!! Yeah baby, that beats getting less than I am worth working for those miserable franchises!!!

What's my name???? Am I Oubre or Shroder?

well, this is the point. i don't think you can let a guy play injured in the playoffs in his FA year and not have him expect to get the big bag. and it's been a pattern with boston. people like to sugarcoat it (or even glorify it), but players don't like being treated like assets. we talk about it like that on fan forums, but these guys know each other.

as was mentioned earlier in the thread, AD's dad specifically mentioned IT when he was publicly talking about why AD isn't going to boston.

i hope not. nunn's as good a player and a better fit for what we needed.

Oubre's a similar wing to Kuzma, but he shot even worse last year.

for the vet min we could do worse, but he would not move the needle much.
