I don't even mind the awards that much (even though it would be nice if our players (not only AD) were appreciated more in general). What bothers me is the fact that most Lakers fans also tend to be much more critical of AD than he (IMHO) deserves. Even when he has an absolute beast mode game, most of the comments here are like "why can't he do that every game?". He does have weaker offensive games from time to time, but judging by the comments from fans alone you'd think he has like one really good outing every three games.

Fans ask "why can't he do that every game" because he "doesn't do it every game". Should he? I don't know. I feel like yes, he should, but may be I was spoiled by Kobe.

Anyway... it's a very different discussion.

The one we had was -- was AD worthy of the award? Over JJJ? I am pretty sure that yes, he was. His D was consistent all the time. But voters are dumb.

Was he worthy of an All Star birth? Probably yes as well. Over the likes of Adebayo, Markannen, Holiday, Siakam AND GODDAMN ZION? Absolutely. Thing is -- the voting was done WAAAAY before we got our s*** together and that matters for those dumb voters. All Star is even more worthless than DPOY.

Plus, wasn't he injured half the time before ASB?

Yeah, we all use the "Kobe Test" as the measuring stick. It's not fair to mere mortals, but it's the standard.

One of a kind, with the mold broken and thrown away, can’t be a “standard” except for those of us who were fans of Kobe and witnessed his career up close and personal. Inherently unrealistic going forward.

I believe that being spoiled by Kobe for 20 years does have something to do with expecting big things out of our Star players every night. I will admit that I have been hard on AD because I know he can do it, and without him, this team goes nowhere fast. These expectations are always attached to the best player on every team and are even larger when we have all witnessed said player take his team all the way.
That being said, he has been absolutely spectacular so far in these playoffs.

i think buried in this is that kobe also had bad games, probably with similar frequency. where we were spoiled is kobe rarely missed time. but name the stars about whom that's true anymore. jokic? tatum? am i missing anyone?

What’s the point …. with Giannis being out? Same thing if AD goes out or to a slightly lesser extent now, LeBron, as he’s not really at 100% currently anyway.

He was really bad that series apart from that. I think that relationship had run its course anyway, it happens, same as us and Vogel. They’ll probably go get Nurse now.

He probably already has 10 offers.

Curious to see what's next for him.

He sure did. But you never ever had to question his effort or desire.

    You know - "I haven't touched a basketball in 4 months" stuff.

Yep. They have no real means of positive roster change this summer. They had to do something after losing in the 1st round. They'll sell a new coach as the change needed to get back to the Finals. When really if Middleton was 100% and if Antetokounmpo doesn't get hurt, they're at least one game away from the Finals and battling Boston in the ECF and Bud keeps his job.
