Swapping KCP for Beasley makes us the title favorite?

Not sure why the focus is on Kuz, KCP, Trez, that was not the alternative. Prior to the Westbrook fiasco, Rob had done deals for Hield and Derozan. Source: players involved in the trades themselves.

Our team would likely be Caruso/Hield/Derozan/LeBron/AD. I'd have to look up contracts later, but decent chance we still could have gotten Rui & Vando, maybe even Beasley too - Utah just wanted the pick. So a bench with Schroder/Reaves/Walker or Beasley/Vando/Rui/Gabriel/Bamba.

I like our team currently, but the above team would indeed be better imo, and would have been achievable without the disastrous Russ trade. Russ apologists refuse to acknowledge other viewpoints and the opportunity costs lost.

KCP is a better defender, and I like him a lot. Beasley is the better offensive player and shooter. If one is worth more than the other it’s marginal at best. Not sure how it makes us an automatic title contender though.

Caruso was a decision ownership made for tax reasons - it’s got nothing to do with the Russ trade. So in hindsight you can say it would have been better to keep him over THT and I agree.

As for Hield, he is worse than Dlo. So in your scenario your payroll is:

    Lebron: 44m
    AD: 38m
    Derozan: 27m
    Hield: 22m
    Beasley: 15m
    Bamba: 10m
    Caruso: 9m
    Rui: 6m
    Walker: 6m
    Vando: 4m
    Reaves: 2m
    Schroeder: 2m
    Gabriel: 2m

You’d have 190m payroll. Not sure if you’ve thought about how we’d even sign any of those players and what you’d trade to get them or how?

Either way, we aren’t the clippers to be able to carry a payroll that high and the luxury tax. So I think you’re just mad about a whole lot of nothing. Derozan wasn’t coming here because we would have been hard capped and couldn’t have signed anyone else. On top of that he can’t work with Lebron and AD due to spacing and being ball dominant.

re: caruso--we took on his salary slot in excess money in the russ deal. the THT/caruso choice was artificial unless it was about tax concerns. tax concerns that wouldn't have existed without the russ trade.

Other posters are talking about adding Hield and Derozan. So we would of had the tax issue with that trade too.

And do you really think with Lebron and AD on our roster, once we made trades to retool, that we wouldn’t have taken on at least similar if not equal or greater salary in any other trade we carried out? We wouldn’t have just let everyone expire… so Caruso still would have been a decision between him and THT. So from that point of view blame management for being poor.

Beasley is a better shooter but I don't think he's an overall better offensive player then KCP. KCP is a better finisher and his pull up mid range jumpshot is solid as well. Throw in KCP's 3 pt percentage has actually been higher than Beasley's the last few years and I'm on the KCP train. The TS% heavily favors KCP

Regardless, in terms of playoffs the better defender is far more valuable when the offensive difference is marginal. Playoffs are all head hunting since Lebron reached his peak for the last decade or so and I'm skeptical Beasley will be in finishing lineups in the playoffs for this exact reason

Not...We had KCP for 4 seasons, he was an above average perimeter defender, and an inconsistent perimeter shooter. He did have a good run in the bubble. Yet he was absolutely terrible against Phoenix.

    He was hurt against Phoenix.
And he's been sensational with Denver. Just an ideal roleplayer type.

WTF: this is definitely not how I would use him if I was the Clippers and I thought it was an interesting move to bring in him

:D …. the original copy to describe the process of assimilating the “Russ Experience” was that he would eventually start but not out of the gate. That one gave Lue some wiggle room. Now Ty is balls deep in that “experience” if the above is true. I mean you don’t just have a short leash let alone entertain benching a walking triple double HOF player …. amirite?

    Go Russ!!!

I hope he does awesome TBH. From a Lakers perspective, you want him getting as many minutes as he can get going into any potential playoff series with the Clips.
I feel the Lakers match up well with a lot of the top teams in the West but these 5 out attack teams like Clips, Kings, OKC have given this team problems thru the years and more Russ the better for the lakers as far as I'm concerned

If he is starting I'm going to be rubber necking some games of their's starting tonight. Him on Fox on and off ball will be fun.

    What is rubbernecking?
Rubbernecking occurs when drivers take their eyes off the road to look at a distraction, such as an accident or arrest. The term originated in the late 1800s to describe the act of turning and stretching the neck to eavesdrop. Today, it's synonymous with the same motion but is now commonly associated with the action that takes place while driving—namely slowing down to see an event that happened to someone else. Rubbernecking is a form of distracted driving that can be as dangerous as texting or talking on the phone while driving.

Oh my goodness I hope hope hope he plays 30+ minutes a game for flop city. The only thing that would be better is if he went over to our hated rivals and torpedoed them as well.

Yeah exactly. Can't imagine why KD didn't do some "new arrival ring chasing player" GM-ing of his own to try to get Russ to the Suns with him to help out the old Heliflopter?

oh boy they're actually doing exactly what every Clippers fan and writer hoped they wouldn't do...

This is a massive gamble man....but honestly idk how Russ would do off the bench...it would be what, russ gordon powell off teh bench? Doesn't make much sense to have 3-guard lineup there.

Now it'll be Gordon Powell Mann Batum Plumlee off the bench, with Russ PG Kawhi Morris Zu starting. Bones and Cov are out of the rotation and will play likely when there's injuries or guys are taking games off.

I don't know how it's going to play out over there. I just want to beat them on April 5th, we've lost 10 straight games to the Clippers. It doesn't seem to matter who they have, or who we have either. That s*** needs to change.
