Bron, Davis, Kuz, Howard ..... for starters, against bunch of midgets. Hopefully we are back to peaking at the right time and we’ll be treated to just how good this Lakers team is.

Whatever it takes to see Mike Dantoni whine and cry, I’m for it.

Be interesting to see how that works out. I know he'd be doing some personal coaching, but didn't know this was even an interest. Dirk for Assistant Head Coach?

Could go really well, or could be a disaster. I'm not sure I see a middle ground.

Curious if he’ll try to run old Dan Tony / Nash / Phoenix system or more toward Warriors system where he has been skills coaching for several years now?

    Exactly!!

But did anyone see Stephen A. Smith's thoughts on this coaching hire?

He just got ripped a new one by fans of all races on Twitter. While I would be pissed if I was a coach who had been putting in time as an assistant and didn’t even get an interview, it was a pretty weak take overall. HOF qualifications had more to do with the hire than anything. But the optics are poor.

When bringing up examples, he brought up a couple coaches not considered for the position that were also previously hired for their first time without coaching experience and black, so his take was really weak sauce.

He also had no issue with Derek Fisher being hired in his beloved NY as an inexperienced head coach.

hard to believe he believed what was falling out of his face, but I still think it was a poor idea not to interview other coaches. Very socially unaware.

SAS wilted under the pressure of being called less black than his counterpart, Max Kellerman. It was so obvious. Obsession with race is no longer on one side anymore. It's an obsession from all sides to obtain power. Nothing more, nothing less. People are opening their eyes to the scam though. We will see if it will have a happy ending.

surprised that nash wanted to coach and that he wanted to coach that group in particular.

nash has a bit of an ego, and coaches get fired and blamed for everything. i don't see this going well. also, guys with preternatural court vision have a hard time instilling this in others: see the angles! why don't you see them???!! jump, legless frog! are you deaf?

plus, durant and kyrie: that's some serious mental baggage. just two really prickly, weird guys who seem to want to beef a lot.

i'm glad for atkinson he got out. he deserved better.

Supposedly, Durant really wanted Nash - he respects him a lot. And he obviously convinced Kyrie this is the way to go. I will reserve my judgement until I see Nash coach at least 30-40 games.

Also, I am not buying Smith's take on it. I mean, I am all for having more black coaches in the NBA, but teams often hire former guards without much coaching experience. Just to name a few: Doc or Fish (African American), Kidd (of mixed race) and Kerr (white). I don't think race plays any role in this. It's just the obsession with successful guards, who can supposedly use their great basketball IQ to turn teams around. And, you know... some of them can, and some can't, regardless of their race.

I’m sure he’s not worried about it. If things go bad he can just show up and collect a paycheck, or get fired and go away and still get paid. You know, take a bunch of money for doing absolutely nothing, he’s good at that.

Yep. He's got years of experience. Kind of surprised though since he always said the reason he considered a trade to the Lakers from the Suns was it would allow him to stay relatively close to his kids (who live in Phoenix). Do his kids still live there? Brooklyn is a long way from Phoenix.

Ugh. I’m still bitter at Nash for that.
This hire took me by surprise for sure. I don’t get it. The guy has no experience as an assistant coach even. And he hasn’t ever expressed interest in being a HC. I personally don’t see It working out. But I guess you never know? Not sure I see vets like Kyrie and Durant listening to Nash. But if Durant wanted him maybe they will.

but it's the ego. he left dallas because he was insulted at their offer and didn't even let them counter phx's, and it was the thing that motivated him to focus on staying healthy (which was his main issue in dallas). i don't know...i just don't think he's the type to handle negative evaluations well. and coaches get those a lot.
