I'd let Schroder walk and keep Caruso/THT.

Only way I keep schroder is if he balls out in the playoffs - other than that? He's not worth 20-25m and I don't wanna be the team will be stuck with him

I just realized by reading a Woj report that Chris Paul could be a free agent this summer if he declines his player option.

I think it’s actually possible he declines that if he can resign another multi-year deal but at a lower annual rate. Something like $75 million over 3 years ($25 mil/year average)? Keep in mind there’s a high probability by year 3 CP3 might be dead money similar to the final years of Steve Nash’s career.

Having said that, if Schroeder wants $25 mil/year as well, how would everyone feel if we did a dual-sign and trade of CP3 for Schroeder?

The age of both players fits better for each team. Schroeder can grow with Booker/Ayton while CP3 ring chases with Lebron in the last phase of their careers.

CP3 would work for us like pineapple on pizza.

Me? I like pineapple on pizza. Besides, CP3 was supposed to be a Laker. Call it poetic justice.

huge worries it could turn out exactly like nash did, though. we might be seeing paul's last great/healthy year right now, and you don't want to be the one on the hook when that happens.

i do think there are some s&t possibilities with schroder, though--assuming we can do that given our cap status. ideally, we take back less money and move him to a team with space.

To be fair - Nash had back problems long before he joined the Lakers. CP3 is healthier/sturdier. His leadership qualities are undeniable. He holds people accountable. His BB IQ might be higher than Bron's. And he would play relatively limited minutes on the Lakers.

Would he cost us TNT Dynomite or the Eagle though if they did that?

I think we're a year away from being able to get CP3 for cheap. He pushed to go to the Suns, so I don't really see him jumping ship already. But one more 1 year pay day, then come here and play with Bron for a 'ship shot for the $10mish MLE.

Don't think so, since we'll have those guys' bird rights.

Well sure, but how much pain tax wise is the Buss family willing to bear for the next couple of years is the question. THT probably going to add a bunch to that, and if AC is given a fair contract he should be paid at least as much as Kuzma, and may be offered a lot more than that by another team. Anyway, I have faith in Jeanie keeping the most important parts of our team together to maximize Lebron's chances at giving us another ring or multiple rings, and Rob to be this guy ..... smart .... and knows what he is doing.

and cp has been basically bone-on-bone in his knee for years. nash looked good the year before we got him. led *the suns* to a deep playoff run just a year before, right? then he broke his leg and fell off a cliff before the ink was dry on the trade.

They can replace all kinds of skeletal joints. You’d think super duper replacement cartilage would be a thing by now. I do remember reading about CP2’s knee with that problem after only a couple years in the league for him.

you're thinking of the 09-10 suns who lost to the lakers in WCF

nash's last season in phoenix was 11-12, and while he still averaged a double double per game (12.5 ppg 10.7 ast), those numbers were noticeably down from his usual output. he was already on the decline and the leg injury he sustained in his 3rd or 4th game with the lakers was the nail in the coffin

yes. though is advanced numbers didn't nosedive until he played for us.

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/nashst01.html

the slight dropoff he had prior could be explained by a little drop in minutes and FGAs.

anyway, it's similar enough to the chris paul situation to make me nervous.

i don't think i'd take a chance on cp3 either. just turned 36 and has tons of mileage on him. sounds like a season ending injury waiting to happen

Yikes hope that doesn’t affect us somehow if he actually has it manifesting now and we were all exposed up close and personal, vaxed or not.
