well, i think a lot of people look at the last time the nets did this for guidance, but i'd suggest looking at counterexamples. how many picks did the lakers give up for nash? 3 1sts, right? lasting over 5-6 years, iirc. did phx really benefit tremendously from this?

now, these are unprotected, but it's generally pretty easy to avoid the cellar--especially because usually 4-5 teams are tanking hard in a given year. i'd rather have a star and fewer picks than a boatload of picks.

Philly was never a realistic destination, they were used for leverage to get BKN to pay up picks.

Houston has beef with Morey as GM. They know about him and how he rips teams off in trades

are we sure morey rips teams off? aside from the harden deal, what did he do that constituted a heist? i wouldn't be afraid of dealing with him.

He's not the best but he is an opportunist.

He got CP3 for Beverley and Lou Will in 2017. Thats one i can think of the top of my head

Anyways I think Hou didn't want Simmons partially because Morey was looking to unload him

If Simmons was on the table, and Houston FO took the Nets offer instead, then they failed hard in their first big test.

Not saying this or the GS team ups shouldn't have been allowed, but it still irritates me that you have both of these BIG TIME super teams but they couldn't let Kobe have CP3.

It’s only a big deal when it’s the Lakers. We had reports of other teams GMs telling Demps to hold strong and not to deal with us when AD asked for a trade, but when James Harden gets traded to join Durant and Kyrie forming another superteam and the best player they give up is LeVert, not a peep.

The piece of s*** was too busy helping his racist pig of a friend Donald Sterling. That's way.

Silver should come out and retroactively acknowledge that “basketball reasons” was a BS justification and that, as we all know, the league really just caved to pressure from other owners who didn’t want to see the Lakers continue to thrive. Then throw us a few extra compensatory draft picks.

The thing that slays me with all that is we are not the wealthiest owners in the league by a long shot. Our owners actually run this team as a business as they are all being supported by it. Most of the other teams are owned by rich people who want bling.

Thank goodness for that 10 year Time Warner TV deal. Which we will be coming up on its end in another year or so. Also thankfully, and incredibly, we are back at an even higher stage of performance and attraction with LBJ and AD being here now with one championship already won. Hopefully that bodes well for Jeanie negotiating another lucrative contract with them (now AT&T owned including DTV).

That first contract was greatly fueled by the “anticipation” of a new dynasty with the arrival of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. Sucked for TW I’d imagine after Nash couldn’t play, Kobe’s achilles, Dwight leaving and Lakers missing the playoffs and sucking the next 6 years.

definitely wonder how TV deals will change now. More people are using alternative services than cable to watch games than ever, so I fully expect a completely different type of deal.

seems like a streaming alternative should be available that could easily be accessed by any fan anywhere.

I always heard that it was still a good deal for them, they got their viewer numbers. One thing about us Laker Fans, we stick around through thick and thin. I will grant you that the Jim Buss years were the pits but I never stopped watching and I never stopped paying for their channel, always made sure I was with a service that had access to it.
