I just realized that Harden has a 15% trade kicker. It would make zero sense for them to trade him unless they are getting an insane amount of young talent back.

This is epically sad for him with apparently his body not responding as hoped with the continuous 2 years of rehab now from the 3 injuries. Rockets seeing same thing as Lakers.

I thought Rockets won this trade. Westbrook would never work with Harden and Wall, despite going through crazy injuries, is still younger and a better fit than Westbrook. Harden apparently wanted Wall over Westbrook so you make that kind of trade just to keep him happy. I think Rockets are going to be a top four team in the West, still. If Cousins and Wall play anywhere close to All-Star level, they are going to be a tough team to beat. Christian Woods is an absolute animal as well.

I just can't believe that Wall will be close to what he was. His game was predicated on his other worldly athleticism. He tore an achilles. He just won't be the same.

He might be hooping a lot, but hooping in practice and pickup games is different than full NBA action. You can look good in those scenarios, but not having that extra gear due to an achilles tear will come back to haunt him at the NBA level. The Wizards win this trade. Wall is likely the worst contract in the entire league if past achilles injuries are any indication. He is being paid a super duper max for 5 more years. You will not be able to build anything with that much of your cap being taken up by an above average NBA pg at best. At worse he's a backup taking up over 1/3 of your cap. I feel bad for Wall. He was a fun player to watch. But medical science has not figured out how to repair the achilles to 100% effectiveness. I think we eventually will. 25 years ago an ACL tear was going to effect you the rest of your career. Now players come back at 100% after 9-12 months.

Cousins tweeted this when the Wall trade broke:

And there was some buzz around Westbrook for Wall before the draft, so I feel like this has been in the works for a while (was also seeing on Twitter yesterday morning before the trade broke some reports of Westbrook being seen in DC).

Cousins and Wall were college teammates and apparently still good friends, so this may have been a big factor in why Cousins went to Houston.

So if I was Houston and stuck with Wall now, no reason to stir the pot and get rid of Cousins, especially when I don’t think Houston will end up playing for all that much. I would be very surprised if he ends up becoming available again. Seems more like a Dwight type deal than a typical non-guaranteed training camp contract.

Wall's game evolved around having a sixth gear in a gear filled with people with five gears. His game relied on speed as much as Usain's Bolts running race's did (and I feel this is only a mild exaggeration).

Look at Westbrook who has had at least two (I count three) significant injuries. I see the high motor but I don't see the blistering speed that Westbrook used to have, which is why we saw Westbrook getting frustrated, which is why we relaxed or cheered when Westbrook got the ball and would chuck a three or do a janky turnaround.

I feel Wall and Harden will be disappointing and feel for giving a way a draft pick and filling up cap space I would have kept a disgruntled Westbrook and rode the lightning. Wall and Harden are winner in 2k Gming of course where you can return from the attrition of an Achilles tear and not lose a step (or gear).

yeah, i'll be shocked if wall is as good westbrook. and adding another guy who cares as much about partying as winning can't be a great thing. i thought maybe after morey left, the franchise would stop kowtowing to harden's whims, but they're digging further in. guys: people don't like playing with him for a reason. and setting the organization up as his fiefdom is part of it.
